April, known as Parkinson's Awareness Month, is a pivotal time for those of us battling this disease. It's about pushing forward, keeping momentum, and highlighting the organizations that support us. Living with Parkinson's presents daily challenges, but it's important to remember we're not defined by our symptoms. Sharing our experiences can foster understanding, turning these hurdles into catalysts for empathy and support. The Parkinson's Foundation and the Michael J. Fox Foundation are just two organizations that underscore the critical need for research. While a cure remains elusive, every scientific breakthrough brings us closer. The funds these organizations raise fuel this essential research, fostering hope. This month is a testament to our shared resilience. It's a call to keep moving, to stay informed, and to support each other. Together, we'll keep the momentum alive in our journey with Parkinson's.

Brendon - The last Beautiful, Brutal Year This is my son Brendon Hopkinson. We called him B. He passed away 6 weeks ago, after a year – long fight with Ewings Sarcoma. I have decided to share some of his teachings, and some of my learnings as, hopefully, a way to give back to my Network – to people who might be going through something similar. These musings are my own, and not meant to be clinically perfect, but just what we have learned. I am using LinkedIn as I am best connected on this platform, and will attempt to post weekly on a Monday morning. My ultimate intention is to possibly write a book – and this is my attempt to formulate my ultimate structure for that. I will attempt to write a short weekly post roughly following the below structure: - About Brendon - The disease and his clinical diagnosis; - the importance of working for great organisations; - Cancer and information overload; - His teachings to us (this won’t just be one post!; - His teachings to others (again more than one!); - Signs that he is still around; - the importance of support; - the Brilliant and Bad medical system; - Leanings on Grief; - Learnings on Death; - And Other topics as they come to mind. I would love to get some feedback from people going through similar situations, or who have done so. Please post in the comments, and we can always message directly if need be.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, and we're spotlighting the incredible work of Nicole Polinksi and Elisia Clark, both scientists-turned-connectors at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF). With a collaborative approach, they bridge the gap between researchers, tools, and funding to accelerate critical studies on Parkinson's disease. In the journey of cancer treatment, much like with any long-term health challenge, stress, financial burdens, and medical side effects can disrupt daily routines and strain even the strongest relationships. This is a central theme in my book, We Were Better Together: Navigating Cancer as a Couple. For today’s blog post, I’d like to share a brief excerpt from my conversation with Dr. Alise Bartley, a close friend and a renowned psychologist specializing in relationship and family counseling. https://lnkd.in/ggCjs3Vv

Being a caregiver for a cancer patient can be incredibly challenging. But, you're not alone and you can get help. Joining a support group can offer a wealth of benefits, including: ☑️Emotional Support: Connect with others who understand what you're going through and share your feelings without judgment. ☑️Practical Advice: Learn tips and strategies from others who have been in your shoes, such as managing stress, dealing with financial challenges, and balancing caregiving with personal life. ☑️Increased Knowledge: Stay informed about the latest treatments, resources, and research related to your loved one's cancer. ☑️Sense of Community: Build meaningful relationships with people who truly empathize with your experiences. ☑️Improved Well-being: Reduce feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression through shared experiences and support. If you're a caregiver, consider joining a support group. You don’t have to walk alone.
