Roadmaps created in a silo are disasters. Why? Because they often create cracks in an organization. Imagine being part of a team and not being heard. It’s not just demotivating, it's destructive. But what if we went bottoms-up? What if everyone from across the company could throw their ideas into the ring? Here’s a practice that I’ve found to be helpful… Every quarter, each function's leader takes the top 5 ideas from their team. These ideas get pooled together directly from the team that wrestles with the day-to-day challenges. Then, as leaders, we discuss those that align with overarching goals. Sure, leadership still makes the call, but the ideas have been sourced company-wide. What does this lead to? Three things: 1. More innovative ideas 2. Stronger outcomes 3. Deeper trust across the company When everyone has a voice, not only do better ideas surface, but your company’s trajectory can shift dramatically.
