This #smallcharityweek we're celebrating our small & local charity partners. One of which is Tiny Tickers 'The Tiny Hearts Charity' and I had the pleasure of chatting with Aimee Foster about their recent legacy campaign with Octopus Legacy for our latest Leg up for Legacies blog. Plus she shared some of her top tips for other small charities looking to launch a legacy campaign including: 📚 Do your research: Before starting your campaign, take a look at what other charities are doing - look at their websites and social media and get a feel for what is possible and what you think would land best with your supporters. The Leg up for Legacies community is also really helpful and contains many useful blog posts and webinars. 🗣 Drip feed the message: Make sure your whole team is comfortable with talking to supporters about legacy giving and drip-feed it into all your comms. It often takes a while to see results, but the more familiar your supporters are with your campaign, what you offer and how it makes a difference, the more legacy pledges you are likely to receive. Nonprofit leaders: Do you know – and talk about – your competitors? This may sound counter-intuitive to think about right now, but when you can name the other organizations in your space and how your work fits together, you're better equipped to: → Talk honestly with donors about the scope of the problem → Find mission-aligned partnerships → Clearly communicate what makes your approach unique → Focus on the parts of your work that truly can't be found anywhere else Take a moment to ask yourself: In our community/city/state, where else do people get help for the problem we solve? The answer might surprise you – and might just connect you with another charities or foundations you can team up with right now. Personally, I've seen the most amazing collaborations happen when organizations start having these conversations openly. Plus, your donors are probably already aware of the other nonprofits in your community, so why don’t we talk about it? 🤔
