On #nationalapprenticeshipweek, it’s great to see The Times report on our research that 1/3 mid-sized businesses need more guidance and financial support to hire apprentices, unlock skills and boost the economy: https://lnkd.in/ectufA8c
This week is #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, a week to celebrate our country’s brilliant apprentices. However, our research tells us that over 1/3 of mid-sized businesses want to hire apprentices but feel unable to do so due to a lack of guidance or resources. We believe that with the right level of targeted support, these businesses can boost the number of high-quality opportunities on offer to our younger generations and provide the skills the UK so desperately needs. Great to see our findings picked up in The Times and on LBC Radio today. You can read the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/edpE3Bgv.

Hopefully this new executive order from the Biden White House will significantly expand registered apprenticeship opportunities across many industries in the US. Registered apprenticeships caught on in England about 25 years ago, but progress on registered apprenticeship programs and opportunities in the US has been slow and difficult. BUT, the groundwork has been laid; there's evidence proving the various benefits of registered apprenticeships to individuals, businesses, and the economy; funding and momentum are building; and NOW there's an executive order championing Registered Apprenticeships and skills-based hiring. Learn more here and check out https://lnkd.in/evaQ8MKD. #RegisteredApprenticeships #Apprenticeships #EconomicMobility #WorkforceDevelopment
We at Jobs for the Future (JFF) are thrilled to celebrate the new executive order from the Biden White House that champions the use of Registered Apprenticeship and skills-based hiring. Here's why we're applauding this monumental move: ⭐ Helps Address Skilled Labor Demand: The executive order introduces incentives for using Registered Apprenticeship graduates in federal grants and contracts, allowing this “earn and learn” model to help address the urgent need for skilled labor in industries nationwide. ⭐ Promotes Economic Mobility: The order recognizes Registered Apprenticeship as a valuable, debt-free pathway to well-paid careers, offering significant economic mobility for individuals facing barriers to employment. ⭐ Broadens Sectoral Application: By extending Registered Apprenticeship benefits to emerging fields such as teaching and healthcare, the order diversifies and enriches the apprenticeship ecosystem beyond traditional sectors. ⭐ Models Best Practices: The federal government sets a precedent in workforce development by adopting Registered Apprenticeships, encouraging a strategic approach to hiring and training that can be emulated by other employers. At JFF, we believe in creating opportunities for all to achieve economic advancement, particularly those facing systemic barriers. Our vision, to ensure that in 10 years, 75 million people facing systemic barriers to advancement will work in quality jobs, is echoed in the spirit of this order. Let's celebrate this stride towards a more inclusive, skilled, and equitable workforce. Join us in supporting this initiative and exploring how together, we can contribute to a future where everyone has the chance to succeed. #Apprenticeships #WorkforceDevelopment #EquitableEconomicAdvancement https://lnkd.in/gxnyy8em

We are delighted to see the Labour Party commit to a guarantee for all young people aged 18-21 as the Youth Employment Group has been calling for, a target of 80% employment, and reaffirm their plans for apprenticeship reform. Employment is not just a tick box exercise, and at Catch22 we have been campaigning to tackle underemployment alongside unemployment. It is important as JobCentre Plus struggle with reduced resources to find ways to help people find sustainable, long-term careers that are suited to their needs and interests. This is why reforming the apprenticeship levy is particularly welcome. While apprenticeships and further education should be made available for all candidates who can benefit from them, they are not always the best choice for many ambitious people. In our fast-changing digital world, some job seekers need a shorter-term, flexible, tailored training course to start a niche profession or alternative career that does not require traditional training and education. It is also extremely positive to see Labour recognising the need to merge mental health and other support services and provide wrap-around support. In practice, this means extending support beyond someone getting first hired, checking in with them and helping them pass probation. In our experience this makes all the difference in setting someone up for sustainable, long-term employment. The current direction is in line with the offer we asked for young people and we hope to see more of our manifesto policies being adopted by parties as the campaign progresses. As we approach the new financial year, it's essential for employers to explore avenues for upskilling current staff and injecting fresh talent into their workforce. The apprenticeship levy, established by HM Government in April 2017, serves as a pivotal tool to facilitate and incentivize increased engagement in apprenticeships. This levy applies solely to employers with a payroll surpassing £3 million, set at a rate of 0.5% of the wage bill, collected via PAYE. Why consider employing an apprentice? • Attract dedicated individuals keen to kickstart their careers. • Infuse new perspectives and diversity into your business. • Provide training and growth opportunities for your existing workforce. • Address skill gaps within your organization. • Enhance your company's Corporate Social Responsibility profile. Furthermore, your business stands to benefit by: • Accessing full or 95% government funding for training. • Qualifying for additional incentive grants to further support your initiatives. By embracing apprenticeships, businesses can not only nurture talent but also foster a dynamic and inclusive work environment primed for future success. #ApprenticeshipLevy #Upskilling #TalentDevelopment #HRStrategy Contact me on jaynetinson@solveway.co.uk

Should accounting be part of this momentum? Anyone want to explore this with me? I think our community colleges like Portland Community College would embrace this and have the systems in place from our longstanding work with the traditional trades. Our accounting students are ready and waiting for career pathways that allow them to support themselves along the way. Internships are great but they are a luxury that’s not viable for many underrepresented and nontraditional students. There’s currently a new opportunity for this for accounting/finance graduate students, but it’s the community college audience that always moves the dial! #acccounting #apprenticeships #communitycollege #apprenticeship #bookkeeping #accountingstudent #accountingstudents #accountinginternship #accountingmajor #accountingcareers #cpa #accountinginnovation #cpafirms #cpajobs #cpa #aicpa
