Q: How can I get into design leadership? Very common question. Companies want people with leadership experience, but you need an opportunity to get experience. Catch 22. I had a great conversation with Andrea Pilutti on becoming a Head of Design when he was at Nespresso, he's now at Mews, as Product Design Director. Link to article: https://lnkd.in/eSD8t3QJ Andrea's career trajectory is one which is clear from IC, management and now more senior design leadership roles.

When it comes to employee events, 'sit and tells' are tired and dull. Activation means immersing people in your business challenges, helping them to gain clarity and focus. Plus energising them in the process. Read Laura Gallagher's post below on a scavenger hunt we ran last week in Porto 🇵🇹 People Activation #activatingemployees #internalcomms #liveevents
Step out of the conference room and into an adventure! ✨ Just a week ago, 180 leaders took to the vibrant streets of Porto for an exhilarating scavenger hunt designed to unveil their organization’s new behaviors. Teams navigated Porto’s charming locales, collaborating to solve five unique challenges—each linked to each behaviors. Armed with an interactive guide, they tackled puzzles, riddles, and anagrams, leading them to each destination and deeper insights. Every challenge culminated in a photo task, with the best moments shared and celebrated the following day. The leadership conference was crafted to cultivate connections and align thier people with a unified purpose, shared priorities, and new behaviors. It was incredible to see each team member embrace their role in driving positive change within the global business. The concept of "Together Unstoppable" became the driving force behind this experience, instilling confidence that the team is making a significant positive impact and will continue to support the organization's goals. 👊 Shout out to the People Activation team who pulled this epic experience together, Natalie English Sophie Coxon Katie Scicluna Sophie Roycroft 🙌 Planning your next leadership conference? Your executive personal brand is different from your job title. You might be a healthcare CEO, marketer or IT person. But your brand is unlikely to be solely about what you do every day. It’s bigger than that. Your brand communicates your unique reason to serve—and clarifies who it is you would get out of bed early to guide through the transformation that only you can facilitate. A 2024 article from Chief (https://lnkd.in/gFjdaCA9) suggests that “by honing a voice and point of view that’s separate from any current title or role, leaders can craft their own career narrative and position themselves to take advantage of future opportunities.” I could not agree more. Join us for our seven-day Brand Leadership Summit to leverage the time-proven Excavate-Tell-Affirm™ process from Revealing Genius. We have one that starts TODAY 9/5! Or, get ready to have brand clarity in the New Year by registering for our next offering, December 12-20. https://lnkd.in/erNgvgu4

LEADERS: Don’t be afraid to give clear directives. Own your leadership. Co-design is great in certain circumstances but it is not always necessary or practical. Also, it can do great harm to the culture of your organization and to buy-in to invite your team into co-design when the direction has already been decided by senior leadership. In those moments co-design can begin to feel like manipulation as people are ushered toward a particular goal after being told to dream big and broadly. It is also critical to give clear parameters when co-designing with your team. Be clear about constraints. Be clear about things that are off the table. Finally, it is critical to include senior leadership in co-design spaces. Nothing is worse than your staff being excited about their ideas only for leadership to see what the team decided and later shoot it all down. This can be avoided by having senior leaders at the table. Doing so will allow you to remind folks of limitations, constraints and non-negotiables during the design process.
