This is what we've learned over the last two decades: If you want to be successful in business, you must be willing to let go. The way you've "always done it" isn't necessarily the best way. #businesslessons #corporatelaw #anniversary

Our Head of Services, Rod Nadwie-Smith, recently celebrated his one year anniversary at SDN. When asked how he describes his experience at SDN so far, Rod shared three words – inspiring, motivating and authentic. “The rich history of SDN was one of the factors in my decision to work here. Our history is attached to the values of the organisation, which are embedded in our culture. It is organisations such as SDN that can stand the test of time, that survive.” When looking back over the last year, Rod shares that what he has most enjoyed about working at SDN is our ability to be large enough to have scale, advocacy and reach but still be small enough to feel authentically connected. “SDN is at the sweet spot of size and impact. We can still intimately understand our customers and teams, and yet make a positive difference to the lives of children and families every day.” While Rod continuously balances a demanding schedule, he enjoys the various opportunities he has to physically spend time at our services and see the lived experiences with children every day. At SDN, we have children at the centre of all decision making. This influences the decisions we make in our processes, for our workforce and also in the partnerships we form with external organisations. One of the key initiatives that Rod has implemented at SDN has been our new association with Woolworths at Work. “Partnering with such organisations that are aligned to the work we’re doing, who support our commitment to children’s wellbeing, learning and development and who share the same core values is really important.” Looking ahead, Rod is excited about the opportunities that SDN has to influence the sector and Government reforms. “We at SDN are privileged to have a voice in areas not only limited to Early Learning, but also on inclusion and how we support children at risk.” With the introduction of our new 5 year strategic plan, Rod shares that “it is a great time to be a part of SDN. I’m looking forward to building our contribution both in the sector and for us as an organisation, in creating an equitable world where all children thrive.” #sdnchildrensservices #staffprofile #anniversary

#2yearsanniversary Somewhere, I got a notification: hurray, it is your business birthday - typically, I can't find it back. However this month 2 years ago, and maybe know me a bit extra - I started with The Good Consulting Company which I expected to be a slow burn to grow! Which probably will do it on the side for a couple of years and see where it takes me, with not a lot of expectations as was like we see where this ship takes us, but with a lot of passion and determination. That paid off big time; in the last 6 months, we have grown 200%, with probably more growth to come still, and we already have contracts for the 2025 financial year to match this year - and more on the horizon. Our aim is now to grow to 1 million turnover by the end of the next financial year! This is all because of a passion, as I do not sell just a product or service, but I sell why I love this, why it is important, why I do it and the passion behind it. This makes us, as we are growing different from others, as I want to work with people with the same passion, drive and more to create change - and that is also why in #2026 we are going international, with not one but three international events about #inclusion #disabilitiy and #neurodivergence but more on that later in 2025. I never expected to be where I am now, as a bit than a year ago after my divorce, I was looking for extra work, but somehow life decided differently - and in a rollercoaster upwards. Life can give you a lot of hardship and so much more, but if you are passionate about something, you will shine and stand out - now, preparing for the end of the week - and tomorrow, catch up on some overdue e-mails. That I do not want for next year to do :) #anniversary #businessbirthday #growth #future #vision

Today marks the last day of my third maternity leave with my first day back at #Microsoftadvertising tomorrow. *My learnings* > never leave the house without any baby wipes..! > Cap air travel to <three hours (best for everyone all round 😁) > Bluey is a wholesome show with playful and poignant lessons for children and adults alike..... > Teething doesn't get easier even the third time round... 😣 And yet , what I've also learnt is there is a lot of invaluable skills I can leverage. The constant practice of handling multiple tasks simultaneously sharpens organisational skills. The abundant practice of patience in parenthood hones in on empathy and compassion. The unexpected circumstances and constant learning curves demand adaptability as a child's needs change so quickly, requiring you to learn from your mistakes pronto and deal with problems you’ve never encountered before. Crisis management... daily! Finding creative solutions under pressure exercises your resourcefulness. And finally- perspective. Lots of it. On why you work, how you wish to work, and the importance of role modelling working hard, smart and striving to improve, learn and develop. Looking forward to reconnecting!

As the year comes to an end, our LinkedIn feeds are swamped with year end recognitions, awards, career reflections and goals for the upcoming year. In the midst of all this, I cannot help but think about all the mothers who sacrifice their careers and stay at home to run homes and raise families. 🏅SAHMs do not experience the excitement of showcasing concrete achievements that were a consequence of their year long hard work. 🪙They are not awarded year end bonuses based on how well they delivered on their KPIs 🪜They do not have promotions to look forward to, that validate their competence and skills 📓 They surely do not have year end reviews that recognize the value they bring to the organization. Yes, the job of a SAHM is one of the most important ones in the world. You feel fulfilled when your child excitedly walks into the door with an A on the test that both of you had been working on. You feel seen when someone points out how empathetic your child is or how perfect your home looks. But is that enough? Does that compare with the growth, fulfillment and external validation you receive at work? SAHMs pour their lives into uplifting and ensuring the success of the partner who thrives and succeeds in their career. But what about the void they feel - of what it would have felt like to have a few accolades to their name? Let’s all start the next year by: 👩👧 Making more space for primary caregivers in organizations and society at large. 🏠 Normalizing fathers taking equal responsibility for childcare and household care Most importantly, organizations need to formulate policies that support parents in this critical phase of their lives, and aid in fostering an equitable society where both parents have an equal right to seek fulfillment through their personal and professional lives. Happy new year!

For our career moms, we understand how challenging balancing a career with motherhood can be. So we thought to share four strategic ways you can maintain strong connections with your children despite your busy schedules. These are; 1. Quality Over Quantity Focus on making the most of the time you have with your children by engaging in activities that foster bonding and create meaningful memories. This could include bedtime rituals like reading stories and talking about the day, having at least one meal together daily to share experiences, and planning special family outings on weekends to enhance the quality of your time together. 2. Effective Time Management Optimize your schedule to ensure dedicated time for your children by prioritizing tasks using planners or digital tools, delegating household chores to family members or outsourcing them, and negotiating flexible work arrangements to be more present at home. This helps balance professional and personal responsibilities more effectively. 3. Stay Connected During the Day Maintain a connection with your children even when apart by scheduling regular check-ins through phone calls or video chats, leaving thoughtful notes around the house or in lunch boxes, and using shared calendars to stay updated on each other’s schedules, facilitating better planning for family time. 4. Involve Your Children in Your Work Life Incorporate elements of your professional life into family interactions by sharing interesting aspects of your workday, occasionally bringing your children to your workplace to meet colleagues and see where you work, and engaging them in related projects in a child-friendly way. This helps them understand and appreciate your work while strengthening your bond. Focusing on quality interactions, managing your time effectively, staying connected throughout the day, and involving your children in your work life, can strengthen your bond with your children even with a busy career. "I am just a stay-at-home Mum." Don't we hear this too often? It's a sentiment echoed by countless mums dedicated to raising their families. But here's the thing—mums often diminish their experiences and undervalue their skills when it's time to re-enter the workforce. At #EpicEmpower, we're on a mission to change that narrative! Not just with any job but with sustainable, high-paying roles in evolving industries. We explore opportunities we didn't know existed—perhaps they don't yet—and we're on an EPIC journey to uncover them. I often hear this sentence when I meet mums on their first day with Epic Empower- I am JUST a Stay-at-home Mum. Our discovery sessions have led to very creative career pathways: from a stay-at-home mum with contract teacher aide work to enrolling in an instructional design course, from cleaning to contact centre roles, and from unemployment to electrical engineering. These transformations are a testament to every mum's untapped potential and versatility. If you are a recruiter or employer, please don't disregard the gaps. Behind every gap is a story of resilience, resourcefulness, and unwavering dedication. What other skills can you think of? #EmpowerMums #CareerStrategy #CareerTransformation #EpicJourney

There was a time I had to take a full PTO day to be at my kid’s school for a function. After my own doctors appointments, the kids appointments and the vacation I wanted to take, I often had no time left. But today I was able to take the entire day to volunteer at my kid’s school about careers…guess what I talked about? Monetizing your social media accounts to make extra money in college. They were all ears ☺️ I’m so grateful to have this time. What are you missing these last few weeks of school? What would you be doing if you were able to create a full time income on social media instead of sitting at the desk you are at today? Schedule a quick discovery call to find out how I teach women to do this 100% free. The link to my calendar is below.
