The High Wind Conference 2024 highlighted crucial steps towards sustainable energy, focusing on streamlining government processes, bolstering the grid 🔌, and enhancing skills and education 🎓 to support the booming wind industry's job market. Norway's potential as a leader in offshore wind was a standout, emphasizing the region's adeptness and resources, particularly in Rogaland. Despite challenges in supply chains and financing 💰, the industry outlook remains optimistic 🌟, with expectations for growth and increased investment in offshore wind. The conference also underlined the importance of nature coexistence 🌱 and leveraging existing industry skills for renewable energy opportunities. The collaborative efforts between industries and municipalities to foster a vibrant community in Rogaland were highlighted as essential for the region's sustainable future 🌍. 🌍 WENDY Project Presented at WECP Workshop on Inclusive and Just Green Transition 🌱 The WENDY project was recently presented by Norwegian Offshore Wind during a workshop at the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP) Annual General Meeting in Stavanger. WECP is a global network of energy capitals dedicated to advancing sustainable energy production. The workshop, titled "Inclusive and Just Processes in the Green Transition: What Can We Learn from Our Cities' Past Experiences?" focused on the socio-economic impacts of the green transition, the effects of new energy infrastructure on communities, and strategies for effective stakeholder engagement in green energy projects. The session provided insights on how multidisciplinary collaboration can inform government and industry practices to ensure inclusive and holistic approaches to the energy transition. It also highlighted the importance of making knowledge accessible to all stakeholders. Stavanger kommune - Anna Kraaijeveld Enerstvedt #WENDYprojectEU

📣 New special issue open to submission! 📚 Dear colleagues and friends, I am pleased to announce the upcoming special issue on "Synergizing Sustainability: Smart Strategies for Enhancing Energy, Economic, Environmental, and Social Performance in Residential and Industrial Renewable Energy Communities," organized together with Prof. Alessandro Massi Pavan and Dr. Simone Negri. Considering the world's most pressing environmental issues and the urgency for effective solutions, Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) have been proposed as the new building block of tomorrow's sustainable energy infrastructure. A REC typically refers to a group of individuals, enterprises, and/or private and public organizations that collaborate to develop, manage, and benefit from renewable energy sources within a specific community or geographical area. The primary objective of a REC is to promote the utilization of renewable energy sources, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, relieve the distribution system from congestion due to distributed generation, and contribute to enhanced sustainability. Within this context, this Special Issue welcomes original, high-quality research papers, reviews and case studies that contribute to research on innovative applications in residential and industrial RECs with the aim of enhancing the 3E and social aspect. For guidelines and further details, please visit the special issue website: https://lnkd.in/eU2e9Q8H. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact the guest editors or the editorial staff.

Last week, the Swiss Policy Lab officially launched! Taking place in Bern, Mosaic partners and 18 representatives of Swiss cantons, municipalities and energy providers discussed the challenges of renewable energy expansion in Switzerland. Ahead of the launch we developed a prototype tool that can be used to assess the suitability of different locations for renewable energies. During the launch participants tested the prototype and gave feedback on the usefulness of the tool and how to improve its functionality and user-friendliness. Based on a discussion of open research questions and needs of the cantons, we devised the following initial goals of the policy lab: - To enhance the prototype tool that can be used to assess suitable locations for renewable energies - Improving our understanding of future land-use changes and their interplay with renewable energy planning - Comparing 'Business As Usual' pathways of renewable energy expansion with pathways targeted at reducing conflicts between energy production, biodiversity and landscape protection We would like to thank everybody being part of the Swiss policy lab for their enthusiastic engagement and look forward to the future activities of the lab!
