I had the privilege of working at Kaiser Permanente in the Vision Essentials Department to study patient attendance patterns using data analytics and machine learning. This project helped us identify key factors influencing attendance and implement strategies to improve patient engagement and satisfaction. Huge thanks to Susy Yu, OD, MBA, FAAO, Dipl AAO for her lecture on “Data Analytics in Healthcare” and to Jessica (Cheng) Jacobs at UCLA MQE for this opportunity! #HealthcareAnalytics #DataScience #UCLA #QuantitativeEconomics
I had the privilege of delivering a lecture on “Data Analytics in Healthcare” to a class of students in Master of Quantitative Economics at UCLA. Healthcare data is complex and messy. But within that chaos lies immense potential. By leveraging data, we can glean meaningful insights, reduce inefficiencies, create clinical decision support tools, and ultimately deliver better, personalized, patient outcomes. Eyecare = Healthcare Huge thanks to our former interns, Yusra Fayyaz, Katrina Rivera, Alexander Castillo, and Carolyn Zhou, for sharing your experience as part of this mini-course. And a heartfelt shoutout to the incredible UCLA MQE staff for inviting me to share my passion. 👩🎨Creativity has a place in Data work! 👩🎨 When a challenge arises, it is the perfect time to look up and look around. 👀 To think what could be done differently. In the session I covered: ☕️ Building relationships and allies 🌄 Understanding the landscape (assessments) 👊🏻 Getting your hands dirty 🙌🏻 Empowering and elevating others - they become the advocates and drivers of impact 👩🏫 Using funding for development - apprenticeships and the levy for long term developement trajectory 🎨 Collaborating with academic students at the cutting edge of their learning to demonstrate ‘the art of the possible’ and make strides, where in house capability and budgets prevents immediate action - thanks Eden Smith Group for the Nurture Programme. 🌌 Reimagining Data Strategy through creative dialogue, big pictures and storytelling thanks to the very emotive and impactful work of Christian Hayes FRSA and Elinor Rebeiro MBA of Create Relate Ltd - this was a massive game changer! 🌱 Building confidence and behaviour change for everyone, with the very successful approach of Data Literacy Academy And finally… having set the foundations for success, was ready for the starting line! 🗒️ The business case! (And achievements of a fantastic, functional data and analytics team ready for the next phase). Let’s keep the sharing going, how are you making it work - outside the realms of constraint????
Huge thank you to Katy Gooblar for taking the lead in our #DataClinic last week. It was inspiring to hear all about how she built a successful data function, at the Royal College of Nursing, from very humble beginnings! There were so many creative solutions that Katy mentioned but what really shone through all of the cost effective strategies was Katy's creativity, resilience and ability to inspire stakeholder support. In order to nurture open dialogue and conversation, we do not record these webinars but we have provided an executive summary to give you just a taste of what Katy achieved in her time at RCN. https://lnkd.in/en-EFXUV One of Katy's tools was to leverage a relationship with our very own #Nurture. Nurture is an educational programme that bridges the gap between industry and academia by supporting MSc Data Science students. If you have a project that would benefit from bright minds who are working towards their masters dissertation, get in touch with Marie May. Again, huge thanks to Katy Gooblar for sharing her journey with such enthusiasm and passion. With 🌳 Lisa Rabone - Sustainability Needs Data, Rebecca Kennedy, Matt Smith & Jez Clark

Many health systems are embarking on the transition toward value-based care (VBC), yet clarity on the extent of this shift remains elusive. A critical question is what proportion of patients, revenue, or margin stems from fee-for-service (FFS) versus VBC contracts. In light of the infrastructure opportunities highlighted by Peter Pronovost MD, PhD, FCCM, it's evident that health systems are still striving to achieve a cohesive integration of their care models, business operations, and compensation frameworks. Health systems engaged in significant risk contracts face difficulties in modifying their operating models, addressing the variability in hospitalization rates, and improving affordability outcomes. Conversely, systems with fewer risk contracts at times subsidize low-volume hospital-at-home programs, where financial incentives are not aligned with desired outcomes. Additionally, large health systems encounter formidable challenges in aligning executive compensation with the diverse factors that contribute to organizational value across different models. This underscores the complexity of fully transitioning to and optimizing value-based care, and the need for external partnerships. #valuebasedcare #partnerships Quintuple Aim Solutions
The interest in value-based care among health systems is increasing, yet their primary operations continue to revolve around fee-for-service hospitalizations. Mark Schario, MS, RN, FACHE, and Peter Pronovost MD, PhD, FCCM, explore the essential resources and infrastructure necessary for a seamless transition to value-based care. Key components include: Operations: Emphasizing network support, effective communication, quality improvement, and meticulous program management. Clinical Design: Advocating for a comprehensive integration of care management, pharmacy, social work, nutrition, and the pivotal roles of care navigators and community health workers, underscoring the importance of a multidisciplinary strategy. Data and Analytics: Highlighting the critical role of teams comprising data scientists, engineers, analysts, and actuaries in generating actionable insights for enhanced health outcomes. This detailed examination sheds light on the multifaceted approach required to shift from traditional care models to those focused on value, ensuring health systems can navigate this transition effectively. #HealthcareInnovation #ValueBasedCare #PopulationHealth
