Sometimes it's easier to "show" than "tell." (And that's often the power of video.) Building out scenes in OBS Studio with sources is a different approach to many other livestreaming tools. Hey everyone, Just finished another video for the game engine series. In this video, we add in two new buttons to play/stop the scene. Previously, we would just load the game as soon as the editor starts. Now we wait to load the game until we press the play button. With this in place, we no longer have to restart the application to see any script changes, we can just press the stop button, then press play and the scripts will be reloaded. We also add in the ability to load in textures from memory. That way we can embed the editor textures directly in the editor. Check it out and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/gu3K6w2Y

This weekend, I had the pleasure to work with two amazing game development teams for their submissions to the GMTK 2024 Game Jam! A game jam is a time-limited challenge in which game development teams create games in short amounts of time, usually with a theme revealed at the start of the jam. GMTK's jam happens to be the most important and biggest in the world. I've participated every year since 2022 as the audio supervisor, composer and/or sound designer of various small teams. This year, since the jam was twice as long (4 days vs 2 days), I decided to take part in 2 projects instead. I worked with people who use GameMaker Studio, which means the code is very similar to C++, the language I'm currently learning. The teams allowed me access to their code, and I've picked up a thing or two that for sure will come in handy in the future. I'm always thankful of people around me who push me and encourage me to do great things. The meetings were long, the discussions were stressful, the hours of work were completely bonkers. But shaping up a game is so rewarding, and when the timer runs out and you are playing the very thing you've created with other talented individuals, you can't get enough of this. Working with people all over the world, in different time zones, with different preferences and different ideas is not always easy, but it is always nurturing, and I am thankful to get to sharpen my collaboration skills. Maestro got some new flashy effects? Tuba Boss is jealous... Here's another small yet substantial update to We Got Compagnie!'s VFX for our Tuba Boss encounter to follow close along the improvements to Maestro's Tremolo Attack! To add some more impact to our Tuba Boss's jump slam AOE attack, I added a pulse of floor boards flying in every direction from the point of impact through UE5's Niagara VFX System. I was worried that performance might dip once I added this but it seems that it runs smoothly on my MacBook. Gotta play test it on other machines though just to make sure. In any case here's a comparison between the old jump slam VFX and the new one! Good evening everyone, I just finished the next video in the game engine series. In this video, we finish off with the Create function in the CreateTileTool class. We also add in panning and zooming of the camera for the Tilemap display. There are a bunch of other fixes and refactoring that we go over in this video as well. In the next video, we are going to start getting into file dialogs and introduce the ability to actually save our tilemaps to a file.
