Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a revenue leaders’ breakfast at Soho House in collaboration with trumpet 🎺
One of the things I love most about my job is bringing people together - sparking meaningful conversations and watching new relationships take shape.
But as I reflect on the event, one thought keeps coming to mind: how do we bring more diversity into these rooms?
We know that Revenue leadership is still a heavily male-dominated space, so when planning events like this, I make a conscious effort to ensure women are represented - but it’s not without its challenges.
Take this breakfast, for example, 25% of the registered attendees were women. Great it’s a start, but there’s so much more room for improvement. Unfortunately, on the day, half of those women couldn’t make it.
So, out of our 40-odd guests, we ended up with just 6 female attendees—and frankly, that just isn’t good enough. I strive for our events to be diverse, engaging, and truly inclusive, representing a wide range of perspectives.
I want to know,
How can I make these events more accessible and appealing to women?
I had some fantastic conversations with Nicola Anderson, Sara Brooks, and Aly Read about this. A few things we discussed included:
- Encouraging women to attend with peers or other women from their network.
- Experimenting with lunchtime events to better accommodate school drop-off and pick-up schedules.
These ideas are just the beginning.
To the female revenue leaders reading this: What barriers prevent you from attending events like these? What would make you excited to join?
And for fellow event/community friends - What strategies have worked for you in improving representation and engagement from women?
