Eco Brutalismo Missing Middle - 5” x 7” Re: Urbanarium Missing Middle Design Competition “Decoding Density” https://lnkd.in/eAaEv9XB Can Artificial Intelligence think in scale when imagining a parti napkin sketch ? Does a.i. have a muse or is it just all wires and silicone down deep ? Does a stepped back 5 story building fit in a 2 story neighborhood ? What part does architectural style play in the decision of contextual fit ? When all Architecture is Progressive over time what is the background City context & how does it age ? What of landscape & architecture as combined ecotone + Nature & the City as sustainable creation in balance ? https://lnkd.in/e5n4Cprr

Why incorporate nature into architecture? Because it's so good! Honestly, I find it pretty wild that it's not one of the staples of architecture - alongside form, function, efficiency, sustainability, etc. Nature's really beautiful, which in my mind is reason-enough to include it in your architecture. But the benefits go waaay beyond that. If you're into scientific studies - I've got a couple links down below. But to save you the reading, some of the highlights are; - improves mental health - improves physical health - promotes environmentalism - promotes optimism and life satisfaction - it even means you get to spend less time folding laundry! (nah, not really, but wouldn't that be awesome). In summary, connections to nature are just bloody good for you! So it seems like a no-brainer that we should incorporate nature into our architecture, right? There's plenty of ways to do this (honestly, I've spent way too long thinking about this, the list is huge and can be applied to literally any situation). Here's a few basic ones: - Visual connections/views of nature - Natural materials/textures - Green roofs/living walls - Easy indoor-outdoor transitions - Comfortable/inviting outdoor spaces - Natural light & ventilation There's really no reason not to! www.bharchitecture.co.nz #nzarchitecture #naturearchitecture #naturalmaterials #biophilia #biophilicdesign #sustainability #hashtagsfordays Studies: - This one reviews all the associations between nature exposure and health. https://lnkd.in/g_kDFZ43 - And here's one that reviews how connections with nature impacts social economics, psychology, and our attitudes toward environmentalism. https://lnkd.in/grP7J9v3

The Sentosa-Brani Master Plan – led by landscape architects Grant Associates, working together with multi-disciplinary consultants and Sentosa Development Corporation – is a bold future vision for #Singapore’s iconic leisure destination. Crafted to safeguard #biodiversity while fostering distinctive environments, it envisions a unique haven where fun, play, and nature intertwine for global travellers and locals alike. Extensive surveys and studies inform the design, considering factors like nature, topography, infrastructure, #climatechange and stakeholder feedback. The plan emphasizes the role of #topography and natural environment in shaping character and experiences, with zones showcasing diverse natural assets. From lush forest ridges to coastal reefs, this landscape-centric approach not only underscores a profound connection with nature but also nurtures innovation in visitor experiences, seamlessly melding with the surrounding urban fabric. #landscapearchitecture #design #greeninfrastructure #designinspiration

Designing in Harmony with Geography and Climate: The Art of Orientation in Architecture In construction, the orientation of a building is much more than just a matter of physical placement. It's about finding the balance between geographic north and climatic north to create spaces that are both practical and sustainable. The geographic north helps position a building in alignment with the Earth's axes, essential for site layout and mapping. But beyond simple geometry, it is crucial to consider the local climate. Designing a climate-responsive building means maximizing natural sunlight, optimizing ventilation, and using local materials to minimize environmental impact and reduce energy needs. In the end, a well-designed building integrates with its environment, respects natural conditions, and creates living spaces in harmony with the world around it. This is where the science of architecture meets the art of sustainability. #SustainableArchitecture #ClimaticBuilding #GeographicNorth #EcoFriendlyDesign #ArchitecturalOrientation #ConstructionInnovation #SustainabilityInDesign

#Domes indeed offer versatile and sustainable alternatives to traditional housing and functional structures. With their efficient use of materials and unique architectural design, domes provide sturdy and eco-friendly solutions for various needs, from residential dwellings to community centers and even emergency shelters. Barry Sendach and Richard DiPilla help people find and construct perfect Dome Spaces and Tentspaces Their curved shape distributes stress evenly, making them resilient against natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes. Additionally, domes often require less energy for heating and cooling due to their reduced surface area compared to conventional buildings. As Buckminster Fuller, the pioneer of geodesic domes, famously said, "The Earth is my spaceship," highlighting the potential of domes to harmonize with the natural environment while meeting human needs. #Domes #SustainableLiving #AlternativeArchitecture #GeodesicStructures Hopefully you enjoy my posts and will follow me on LinkedIn. The attached photo shows moss/grass/weed thriving between the gaps of pathway tiles—an unassuming yet potent reminder of nature's tenacity. This moss, despite the minimal soil and irregular watering it receives, not only survives but flourishes that too in these mid summers days In our journey to create sustainable living spaces, let this moss/grass inspire us to rely on local species and materials that are adapted to our local environment. Utilizing these resources reduces our carbon footprint, supports local ecosystems, and builds communities that are truly in sync with their natural surroundings. Let's commit to investing in materials that reflect the resilience and beauty of our local environment. By doing so, we not only enhance our architectural projects but also contribute positively to the larger ecosystem. #Sustainability #EcoHabitat #LocalMaterials #Architecture
