Smurfit Kappa Ania PM2 is a liner/fluting machine with fourdrinier forming section and a Combi press section. Here, the vacuum optimization included a turbo blower replacing old liquid ring pumps together with save-alls and doctors. EcoFlow dewatering measurement system was installed to maximize the optimization potential. The new equipment along with systematic optimization work with vacuums and dewatering resulted in significant reduction in vacuum energy consumption and specific steam consumption as well as water savings. The optimization was carried out in phases. In the first step, dewatering was optimized. New save all and doctoring with forming and press section dewatering measurements were installed and vacuum system was modified with control valves and pressure transmitters. After this, all vacuum levels could be optimized based on water removal. As a result, 4 out of 7 liquid ring pumps and part of the uhle boxes were stopped. In the second step, an EP Turbo Blower replaced the remaining pumps. After optimization, the SEC has dropped by 70%, approx. 4 GWh per year. It also means more than 1,000 tons of CO2 and 35,000 m3 of water savings annually. The video below was filmed after the first step of the optimization. A sustainable moulding event was held at the JSP Innovation Centre this week. The event was a culmination of a project with leading mould makers that highlighted how sustainable moulding can make substantial improvements to the process. ALD‘s EBuild® 850 is a new player in #AdditiveManufacturing, complementing our leading inert gas atomizers for the production of high-quality spherical #MetalPowders. By combining large-scale powder production with our EBuild® systems, we are further advancing E-PBF (electron beam powder bed fusion) as an economically viable technology for industrial applications.   A common challenge in metal powder fabrication is managing rejected powder that doesn’t meet the required size specifications for modern powder bed systems. Without a solution, this rejected powder can end up as waste, contributing to environmental concerns.   To address this, #ALD has developed an innovative powder recycling process using additive manufacturing. The EBuild® 850 system can process powders with a broad distribution range, making it ideal for both large-scale part production and #recycling. By utilizing E-PBF to create powder-filled #ingots, the system achieves build rates exceeding 1000 cm³ per hour—setting a new industry benchmark. 🚀 Innovative insulated glass sorting with SortJet IG+! 🌐 Imagine if you could simply reproduce faulty or damaged insulated glass units and seamlessly integrate them in the shipping process, without production downtimes or unnecessary labour! The new sorting system from HEGLA, which was presented for the first time at Glasstec, makes it possible. Our SortJet IG temporarily stores insulated glass units after production and only sends them for shipping when all the units in an order are ready. This dissolves the strict dependency between production and shipping. In turn, this means less handling effort and more efficiency in production.
