📢 South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP) for Offshore Wind Development in Ireland Approved 🌊 The Oireachtas has officially approved the draft South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP), marking a significant advancement in offshore wind energy development in Ireland. This plan identifies four key maritime areas for the sustainable and accelerated deployment of offshore wind farms over the next decade. Key Highlights: • Tonn Nua Project: The first site, Tonn Nua, off the coast of Co. Waterford, will feature a substantial 900 MW offshore wind farm. It will be built by the winner of Ireland's second offshore wind auction, which will commence next year. • Future Developments: In addition to Tonn Nua, the DMAP outlines plans for three additional sites: Lí Ban', also off the coast of Co. Waterford, and 'Manannán' and 'Danu' – both off the south coast of Co. Wexford. Green light for Gippsland: Australia Advances its Offshore Wind Ambitions! 🇦🇺 The Albanese Government has taken a major step towards unlocking the vast potential of Offshore Wind power in #Australia. Six feasibility licenses have been granted for proposed offshore wind farm projects in the #Gippsland region of #Victoria, with another six licenses expected to follow soon. This is just the first step! With these feasibility licenses, the Developers can now commence detailed assessment work to determine if their proposed projects are truly feasible. This includes conducting environmental studies, geotechnical surveys, developing management plans, and further consultations before then applying for a commercial licence. The approved Projects are: - High Sea Wind: OW Ocean Winds (EDP Renewables and ENGIE) - Gippsland Skies: Mainstream Renewable Power, Reventus Power, AGL and DIRECT Infrastructure - Blue Mackerel North: Parkwind and Beach Energy Ltd - Kut-Wut Brataualung: Southerly Ten - Ørsted Offshore Australia (Gippsland 01): Ørsted - Star of the South Wind Farm: Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Cbus. Progress in the Southern Ocean offshore wind zone ✅ Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP has offered a preliminarily feasibility licence for a potential offshore wind farm in Southwest Victoria. Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm has been preliminarily offered a feasibility licence for a potential offshore wind farm to be developed in the Southern Ocean offshore wind zone by Alinta Energy and Parkwind, which is part of JERA Nex. Should the project go ahead, it could generate 1.2 GW of electricity, enough to supply around 10 per cent of Victoria’s current electricity needs and support hundreds of new, high-value jobs and a future made in regional Victoria. Next steps include further consultation with First Nations groups before Minister Bowen makes a final decision on the feasibility licence. At GeelongPort, we see massive potential for Geelong to support Victoria’s growing renewables industry in the Southern Ocean and Gippsland zones. We are planning to develop up to 25 hectares of land for a renewables terminal to facilitate the supply of wind farm equipment to Victoria’s offshore wind development zones. The natural advantages of GeelongPort’s site at Oyster Cove mean it has the required space and berth depth for a renewables terminal. Given the speed at which we can get our project up and running, we are well placed to help get this new industry off the ground, making our terminal a cornerstone of Victoria’s multi-port strategy. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦 '𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐧' Plans to build one the largest floating offshore windfarms in the world have been lodged with the Scottish Government. The site of the proposed Ossian project is a whopping 331sq miles, more than four times the size of Aberdeen, and would be capable of powering up to six million homes annually. The project would have a capacity of 3.6gigawatts (GW) and is a joint-venture between SSE Renewables, Marubeni Corporation and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). 📢 Gippsland Dawn Offshore Wind Project Granted Major Project Status by the Australian Government! Another big milestone achieved by our Gippsland Dawn Offshore Wind Project, which has just earned Major Project Status (MPS) from the Australian Government , marking it as a nationally significant step in Australia’s renewable energy journey. As one of just 16 projects to receive this recognition across the country, Gippsland Dawn will now benefit from dedicated support from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, helping streamline its approval process. With a capacity to generate up to 2.1 GW of electricity—enough to power more than one million homes—Gippsland Dawn represents a significant capital investment of approximately $10 billion. The project will create around 2,000 jobs during construction and 200-300 ongoing jobs in operations and maintenance, fostering new supply chains across the region. 🌬️ NSW Government Approves Australia’s Largest Onshore Wind Farm! 🌍 The New South Wales Government has approved the expansion of the #LiverpoolRangeWindFarm, set to become #Australia's largest #onshore wind project. Located northeast of Mudgee, this $2 billion investment will feature 185 Vestas V172-7.2 MW turbines, each standing 215 meters tall, collectively generating 1.3GW of renewable energy—sufficient to power approximately 730,000 homes. Tilt Renewables the project's developer, has been instrumental in advancing this initiative. Acquired in 2019, the project has undergone significant modifications to enhance efficiency and output. The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has #collaborated closely with local #communities, councils, and government agencies to address environmental and visual considerations, ensuring the project's alignment with regional needs. The total capacity of Australia’s first six offshore wind projects to receive feasibility licences is around 12 GW. The first feasibility licences have been secured by High Sea Wind (Ocean Winds), Gippsland Skies (a consortium comprising Mainstream Renewable Power, Reventus Power, AGL Energy and DIRECT Infrastructure), Blue Mackerel North (Parkwind/JERA Nex), Kut-Wut Brataualung (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Corporation), Ørsted Offshore Australia 1, and Star of the South Wind Farm (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, NZ Super, and Cbus Super).
