GelPolymers lab’s Post

Exciting Research Update! Anahita Kazemi Kia and Hooman Harighi are currently working on developing biodegradable, pH-sensitive hydrogels aimed at advancing sustainable applications. Their innovative approach holds promising potential for eco-friendly solutions in various fields. Stay tuned for more updates on their progress!   Sustainable agriculture and forestry are critical goals globally, yet challenges like water scarcity and land desertification hinder progress. Reducing water use in agriculture is essential, and hydrogels are increasingly used in arid regions to address this. These 3D polymer structures absorb, store, and gradually release water and nutrients, supporting plant growth and resilience. Studies show that plants in hydrogel-treated soil thrive with better morphology, physiology, and extended survival. However, enhancing the mechanical strength of hydrogels remains a key area of research to improve their agricultural applications.  #SustainableScience #HydrogelResearch #BiodegradableMaterials #GreenChemistry #Innovation
