The last few months have been incredibly busy for Marsden's US associate team, and it does not seem to be slowing down. December can always be a little bit slower with the holidays around the corner, but we have had conversations with multiples clients in the last few weeks still keen to get associates onboarded for 2025. A typical recruiting process in BigLaw takes anywhere between 4-6 weeks, so now is the time to start one if you are looking for a new home in 2025. How do we kick off Monday mornings with our SEARCH 🔍 team?! 🔍 We start with gratitude and inspiration for the week! Today we discussed the fact that “SMALL THINGS are actually BIG THINGS over time”…. The thought was to not trivialize the “day of small things… 🔍 We then move on to what our focus will be for the week… “ if everything is a priority, then nothing becomes a priority”… this is the same reason for which each of these team members focuses on searching for roles in particular disciplines. Over my 25-year career, I've had clients steal my fee a handful of times. Typically, they reach out to my candidate directly and make a deal to cut us out. "We'll hire you if you go directly through us, and don't return your recruiter's calls." When this happened recently, my team was pretty upset. While it is true that we would win in court, I'm too busy serving grateful clients for that nonsense. That company will be forever blackballed by my firm. We weren't a fit to work together because their values are so different than ours. Any business that isn't a client is by definition a source, so we may repay the favor many times over. Their reputation will take a hit as well because I'll tell the story to influential executives. Doing the right thing has the unintended consequence of loyalty. Robbing your vendors has unintended consequences as well.
