Attention #geotechnicalengineers, when you have gravity walls with sloped backfill you need to also consider earth pressures at the back edge of the wall. Our approach is to look for both the pressures at the #reinforcedconcrete stem as well as the back. In this example, we also run a 2D #finitelement analysis in a single. In the FEM some of the pressures at the edge are larger vs. the LEM approach, partly because in this case the wall does not reach a limit state. Attention #geotechnicalengineers designing #soilnail #walls, don't use Bishop's method for soil nailing walls. I recently had a debate here on LinkedIn and challenged a bet of $10000 as proof that the produced circular #slopestability surface was not critical for a #soilnailwall. Well my bet was not taken, but the #engineer took up my offer to see what I had to say. An automatic search analysis with the #general-limit-equilibrium based on an evolution algorithm in our #SnailPlus software showed that the safety factors were closer to unity vs. a circular search giving more than 1.35 in from what I call a software program developed by people with no idea of how soil nail walls should be. There were more findings, but the bottom line is: You need the right tools and experience if you want better design results and minimize #geotechnical #risks. Don't go cheap on your arsenal! ARC performed a detailed laser scan analysis of a concrete parking garage to assist a general contractor in identifying where code-required clearances were not met. By scanning each level, we accurately measured slab thicknesses and beam clearances at one-foot intervals using Rithm Software. The color-coded results provided a clear visual, highlighting where corrections were needed—saving both time and costs compared to traditional methods. This high-precision approach ensured the contractor could address issues quickly and efficiently.
