On November 19, 2024, Turkish naval aviation achieved a historic milestone as the Bayraktar TB3 combat drone successfully performed its first autonomous takeoff and landing on the TCG Anadolu, the Turkish Navy's future UAV carrier. This achievement marks a critical step in integrating unmanned aerial systems (UAS) into modern maritime capabilities. The Bayraktar TB3, specifically designed for operations from ships like the TCG Anadolu, features folding wings and a design optimized for maritime missions. During the demonstration, the drone showcased its ability to take off at full load using its PD170 engine and the carrier's ski-jump ramp, while autonomously landing without external support. It aligned itself with the runway, decelerated gradually, and came to a stop using its own braking system, eliminating the need for arresting wires or additional mechanical equipment. Key specifications of the Bayraktar TB3 include: - Wingspan: 14 meters (approximately 46 feet) - Length: 8.35 meters (27 feet) - Maximum takeoff weight: 1,450 kilograms (about 3,196 pounds) - Payload capacity: 280 kilograms (617 pounds) - Engine: 172-horsepower PD170 - Range: 1,000 nautical miles - On-station endurance: Exceeding 24 hours These specifications represent a substantial upgrade compared to its predecessor, the TB2, which has a maximum takeoff weight of 750 kilograms (1,653 pounds) and a payload capacity of 130 kilograms (286 pounds). This successful operation validates an innovative deployment architecture that streamlines deck operations and maximizes sortie rates. The technological breakthrough also reduces deck congestion, enabling rapid redeployment of drones for subsequent missions. #military #defense #defence #aerospace #aviation #aircraft #aircrafts #airplane #airplanes #aviationlovers #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #fighterjet #engineering #technology #militarytechnology #defensetechnology #defenseinnovation #defenseindustry #airforce #pilots #turkey #TB3 #Turkish #Bayraktar #UAV #Drone #autonomous

UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía has announced its involvement in the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), a key European defence program aimed at developing next-generation air combat capabilities. The Spanish company is providing an advanced autopilot system for a demonstrator project, supporting the technological development of unmanned aerial systems within the programme. UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía is contributing to “Pillar 3” of the FCAS programme, focusing on the development of remote-operated systems. The company is collaborating with SATNUS Technologies, a consortium led by Spanish firms GMV, Sener, and Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía, which is responsible for advancing key technologies in unmanned aerial systems. This pillar is overseen by Airbus at the European level, with MBDA leading in France and SATNUS taking the lead in Spain. FCAS, which is part of Europe’s broader efforts to modernise its air defence capabilities, will integrate both manned and unmanned aircraft into a cohesive network, known as the Next Generation Weapon System (NGWS). The project includes new manned fighter jets, known as New Generation Fighters (NGF), and a series of remotely piloted systems, or Remote Carriers (RC), all interconnected via a centralised Combat Cloud (CC). Please check out the latest from Facebook blogger MaxDefense Philippines, quoted below: "Based on the latest Procurement Monitoring Report from the Department of National Defense (DND) dated 05 July 2024, the Notice of Award (NOA) for the Unmanned Aerial Systems Level 3 Lot 2 - Electronic Warfare System for the Hermes 900 Acquisition Project of the Philippine Air Force has been approved for cancellation by Defense Sec. Gilberto Teodoro as of 28 June 2024. There has been no reason mentioned, and we believe that a reason won't be posted by the DND anytime soon. Previously we mentioned that the NOA was potentially awarded to Israel's Elbit Systems, who also manufactured the Hermes 900 UAVs and manufacture modular systems for it including Electronic Warfare pods." This would definitely leave a gap in Medium Altitude High Endurance drone requirements here in the Philippines. Also for the sensors it carries and the vital information it would have collected. Surely this is also an opportunity for established suppliers like General Atomics with General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada and companies like Quantum-Systems, ADASI and others to participate in filling the gap. These capabilities are certainly required here in the Philippines. Let's discuss.
