🌍 Pioneering Sustainability: Key Insights from the Workshop on Circular Economy and Climate Adaptation 🌱 I was thrilled to be at the recent workshop co-hosted by the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), experts and leaders came together to address Vietnam’s path to a greener future. The discussions revolved around four critical areas shaping the nation’s sustainable development: 1️⃣ Innovative Circular Economy Models: Showcasing success stories like the Circular Economy Integration Model in Con Dao, the Green Business Startup Model in Tra Vinh, and Hai Phong’s transformation into a green port city, these examples demonstrate scalable approaches for sustainability across Vietnam. 2️⃣ Climate Change Adaptation: Practical solutions were proposed to empower urban communities and raise public awareness about circular economy principles, with a special focus on the Mekong Delta region. 3️⃣ People-Centered Strategies: Prioritizing human well-being, the workshop emphasized implementing a circular economy that directly benefits communities and supports equitable development. 4️⃣ Quality Human Resource Development: Recognizing the evolving demands of a green economy, discussions highlighted the urgency of preparing a skilled workforce ready to lead Vietnam’s sustainable transformation. Board activities| Mr Khuất Quang Hưng shared insights about sustainable corporate governance at Vietnam Corporate Sustainability Forum 2024  The event was organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), took place on September 10th in Hanoi under the theme "Net Zero 2025: Nurturing Trust, Creating Transformation”.  The successful event happened under exceptional circumstances, as Typhoon Yagi had just passed and left severe consequences for the northern provinces and cities, as well as the business community. We are clearly realizing the impacts of climate change on our lives, economic development and human security. Therefore, sustainable development is a critical factor in mitigating and adapting to these challenges. In section 2 ““Realizing business's sustainable goals through fostering sustainable corporate governance and social impact creation”, Mr. Hung highlighted that businesses in Vietnam should shift their strategies to connect with consumers based on their behaviors, needs, and preferences. I had the privilege of diving deep into the latest developments in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs across the ASEAN region. 🌏 The EPR landscape is evolving with both voluntary and mandatory programs, each showcasing unique incentives, flexibility, and ambitious goals. What truly impressed me was the integration of the informal sector in many countries, providing sustainable livelihoods and valuable career opportunities. This integration is a testament to Asian countries finding their own way, proving that Western schemes are not fully applicable to this region. 👏 Notable initiatives like Aling Tindera, Waste for Change, and Project STOP are leading the way, demonstrating innovative approaches and impactful results. 🌟 How are EPR set up in your country? Funded by SECO, the initiative aims to promote circular economy practices and reduce climate change impacts in Vietnam's industrial zones from 2024-2028. With 436 industrial parks employing over 4.16 million workers, transitioning to eco-models will optimize resources, reduce emissions, and boost competitiveness, aligning with Vietnam's global sustainability commitments.
