This creative engineering project has North America’s largest single-wood roof! 👷♀️ 🏗️ Shane Homes YMCA is inspired by Alberta’s rolling foothills. 👀 Its roof looks like a natural landscape. RJC Engineers loved the challenge of this complex architecture. 💡 To make the unique form possible & on budget, RJC came up with a roof layout based on a single-beam shape. The flowing roof allows for repetition in fabrication & assembly. This means the design team could use simple elements to build an irregular & complex structure. ✅ 🤩 The result is a striking exterior for the recreation hub. VALUE UP.....that was the thinking at the @schueco booth this year at the BAU25 show. Basically their thoughts are aimed at thinking about how we can right some wrongs of the past. Existing had decisions plague the industry on two fronts. One, we have an extremely large inventory of buildings that suck, yes suck. Second, well there are some that advocate for building new buildings with the same characteristics of what we know sucks. It's one thing to right previous wrongs, and yes we should be doing that. Know your materials. It seems every client and Architect lately is specifying Rift Cut White Oak for their projects. This, and other factors have made White Oak very expensive and hard to find. Rift White Oak goes for about $10 a board foot. There is a cheaper alternative, and you may not even be able to tell the difference: Rift Cut Red Oak. It goes for about $4 a board foot.
