This is one of the many reasons that I continue to say that Rwanda reminds me of Goldman Sachs. People have a lot of things to say about leaders and about well-run organizations. My experiences at Goldman Sachs and in Rwanda offer a specific vantage point. From that position, I say that Rwanda strives to implement into its national development strategy across sectors what all Goldman Sachs alumni know by heart: “It is not as important to be the biggest but the best.” Larger economies have the advantage of a big population from which to pull talent and to draw attention globally. Smaller nations must compete against these larger nations in order to accelerate their growth by operating efficiently, communicating clearly, and working effectively. The African School of Governance - ASG is a significant step in the right direction for the good of all, and launching in Kigali adds another data point of interest and signal to Africanist thinkers and Pan-Africanists as Kigali expands its tertiary education offerings and welcomes students from throughout the African Continent. A focus on educating Africa’s future leaders with specific attention to governance and strategy and commerce through quality education is an exceptional focus. Mastercard Foundation continues to demonstrate itself to be one of the noteworthy organizations in the space of African education and international education development. For that a salute is due. To President Paul Kagame & and H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn: respect for thinking about to the present & future need for capable leaders to govern the Continent prioritizing the interest of its peoples.

Africa needs a new brand of leadership…upstanding and visionary leaders who can tackle the complex challenges with homegrown solutions. Rwanda’s success stands as a blueprint for transformation through good governance and - under the initiative of our President, H.E Paul Kagame - ASG will undoubtedly help to plug the vacuum often left by our continent’s greatest leaders. #AfricanSolutionsForAfricanProblems

Our team leader Nelly Ndenya was honored to be a judge for the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa Cohort 60 Design Challenge. The Young African Leadership Initiative is an initiative by the #US Government to #empower the next generation of #African leaders. The YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa provides training and post-training support to young leaders aged between 18 and 35 years from 14 countries in East and Central Africa namely, Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. It trains in three tracks: #Business and entrepreneurship, #Civic leadership, and #Public management, and has an alumni population of over 6000. As part of the judging panel, she evaluated 9 promising innovators from 9 countries across Africa. A few things stood out;  1. African youths have so many scaleable ideas, investing in them can yield impactful and sustainable solutions for Africa.  2. Diversity exposes one to a rich array of cultural contexts and innovative approaches to addressing regional challenges. This highlights the importance of understanding diverse perspectives when creating impactful solutions. 3. The world thrives in healthy competition.  4. Training and mentorship are critical for #SustainedDevelopment whilst underscoring the importance of building networks and partnerships to achieve shared goals.  5. Platforms such as #YALI are the doors to ensuring success from the grassroots level. We there need to increase them. 6. As a judge, she had to assess ideas based on their merit while remaining unbiased. This honed her ability to apply critical thinking, consider feasibility, and assess their long-term impact. Finally, the Design Challenge emphasized the role of #community-driven solutions and reinforced how localized initiatives, when supported, can drive #sustainable change. This was an incredible opportunity to not only support the next generation of #African leaders, but also contribute to the #continent's growth, and its brighter future.
