🌍 In times of war, it's easy to overlook broader issues like climate justice. But in Gaza, these struggles are deeply intertwined as climate change exacerbates the dire effects of the war and the suffering of Palestinians. 🌊 The destruction of infrastructure, pollution, and waste accumulation lead to a severe environmental crisis. This situation worsens with rising temperatures, drought, and extreme weather events due to climate change. 🚨 This reality is particularly alarming given that Palestine is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change. The environmental and health damage from ongoing war, compounded by climate change effects, threatens life in Gaza even after war ends. In this harsh reality, climate justice isn't just an abstract concept; it's directly tied to social justice and basic human rights. 💰 Sadly, the same wealthy nations that fueled climate change also fund the war on Gaza. Yet, they evade their responsibilities in addressing this climate crisis. Meanwhile, it's the vulnerable communities on the frontlines—like those in Gaza—who bear the brunt of these crises. 🕊 We call for an immediate ceasefire and lifting of blockades. Palestinians deserve to live in peace, rooted in justice, freedom, and safety. 🕊 #Climatejustice #ClimateCrisis #Gaza #CeaseFireNow

In the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, overlapping crises like conflict, floods, and food insecurity are causing immense suffering. In response, USAID announced $572 million in additional humanitarian assistance so partners can provide food, health care, shelter, and safe water for the most vulnerable people in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria. This new funding brings total U.S. humanitarian assistance to more than $1.2 billion in the region during Fiscal Year 2024. This aid has the potential to save lives. But, it will not fulfill that potential if it cannot safely reach the people who need it most. Safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian access is needed to reach those in greatest need and save lives. Watch here: https://lnkd.in/ejZ_aZS7

1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to the recent escalation of conflict. Every day, we hear about the numbers—the number of displaced, the number of injured, the number of lives lost. But we must remember: these are not just numbers. These are people—people with faces, names, families, and friends. People whose lives have been upended, whose homes are no longer safe, and whose futures are filled with uncertainty. Every statistic hides a story of unimaginable loss, fear, and survival. Let’s not reduce this humanitarian crisis to numbers. Behind every figure is a person who is struggling to endure unimaginable hardship. Statistics will never reflect the depth of human suffering. At International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC we are mobilizing all possible resources to respond to provide critical healthcare to the wounded and sick, to advocate for the protection of civilians and to address th essential needs of those affected by the conflict https://lnkd.in/dwyf2C2W

Translation: The airdrop, is it a show on the pain of the Palestinians? We were happy in the first moments of the airdrop, and we heard cheers and whistles from all the citizens, considering that it was urgent aid and would break the deadlock in the issue of bringing aid into the northern Gaza Strip, and this might alleviate the state of famine. In the evening hours, the platforms were crowded with dozens of videos of the landing operations, but they were for the purpose of showing off, and that it was a heroic act, to break the slope of peoples’ sympathy for the issue of starvation and to alleviate the state of anger against the regimes and governments. The painful thing is that this aid is not enough for one shelter school, so how can you end the famine of 700,000 people?! The planes dropped aid approximately ten times each time, 16 parachute “boxes” in each box, 10 packages. Thus, all that fell on northern Gaza was 1,600 boxes, each box not enough for a family for more than 3 days. In an interview with some specialists, the landing operations that took place on 1 March is only a truck and a half, and I realize that these are difficult calculations and are subject to mathematical estimates, but these percentages are at best. The important thing is to see the display of infliction of humiliation and silence on these massacres and wounds, while no party intervened to stop these massacres and stop the ongoing systematic starvation war on Gaza City and North Gaza. Everyone hoped that there would be an effective global and international intervention and role to put pressure on the occupation to stop the ongoing massacres of killing, destruction, and starvation, and later bring in thousands of trucks for food aid, baby formula, and health aid. In any case, those who act, support, and try are much better than those who remain silent.

Sudan has now reached the one year mark with the war between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RAF), a powerful rival rebel group, competing for power! Both sides are receiving substantial weaponry and assistance from outside countries! The Sudanese people are suffering mightily, with cities, including the capital of Khartoum, being heavily bombed! Hospitals, schools and food markets have been destroyed! Thousands of civilians have already died, diseases are running rampant, and millions of Sudanese refugees are on the move seeking safe havens in neighboring countries! I was interviewed on Alsharq Cable News Network yesterday, on what it will take to end the war in Sudan, and what role can the Biden Administration play in ending the war? The U.S. is one of the largest donors of relief aid in Sudan, and the Biden Administration has actively engaged the African Union and countries across the region, to bring an end to this horrific situation, and to bring the warring parties together, to stop the fighting! However, with the war raging nearby between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and with high tension now between Israel and Iran, which could easily spread region wide — coupled with this being a contentious presidential election year here in the U.S., for sure it is going to be very difficult to get the U.S. to increase its focus on Sudan now! Alsharq is a 24-hours cable news network based in Saudi Arabia. I am often called on to provide analysis on issues in Sudan and North Africa, and to bring a voice from Washington!

My latest Arabic interview with Yemen Daily News focused on factors contributing to the success and failure of the Yemeni political parties and component alliances. We have many experiences in Yemen regarding political alliances, especially since the establishment of these political parties. However, these political alliances failed for an important reason: they were not built on national foundations. I have referred to previous alliance experiences that failed to achieve their goals, including "the Joint Meeting Alliance and the National Alliance parties with the General People's Congress, which Ali Abdullah Saleh led." The Joint Meeting Alliance comprised contradictory, ideologically, politically, and intellectually conflicting parties. In contrast, the National Alliance parties were a reaction to confront the Joint Meeting, and because of that, they did not achieve their goals. Since the launch of Operation Decisive Storm in 2015, attempts have been made to rally the Republican ranks and establish political alliances. However, these clashed with regional trends and were not intended to succeed if they were not by the desires of the countries involved in the Yemeni conflict. Therefore, they failed. Recently, the American ambassador and the American mission in Yemen assisted in establishing this alliance. The goal of this alliance is to put political pressure on the Houthi group. Like its predecessors, the factors that may lead to the alliance's failure include small groups lacking power and supporters. When these alliances increase this way, each party will have its agenda and extraordinary political endeavors. Therefore, we will enter the arena of calculations and interests because the alliance is composed of forces that are not homogeneous in reality; even if the goal of the major political parties is to restore the state, they will be lost among these small entities. In the future, the major political parties must accept small entities as part of the political process and thus involve them in any future settlement, which may be greater than the size of these entities, and this will create another kind of local conflict for power. Also, the Southern Transitional Council ( STC) is an armed military entity supported by the UAE; therefore, the entities with armed arms did not participate in this alliance. Therefore, the dispute will remain between the alliance's leadership and the forces that refused to join. Regarding the factors that contributed to the success of the National Alliance of Yemeni Parties and other components, If there is a genuine desire to make this alliance successful, state institutions must return, and parliament must convene, which has just been allowed to convene.
