The Future of Airport Security: Airport security has changed tremendously since the atrocities of 9/11. Since then, security requirements for screening have created longer lines at airports, fear amongst travelling public, increased cost for airport security equipment inter alia. The new paradigm has also created jobs, new Industries and overall a safer airport for the travelling public. However, it may be time to pivot into what I refer to as Smart Airports. These airports would utilize AI platforms to perform the screening tasks that currently take place, reducing passengers waiting time at airports, while not compromising security protection. How would a smart airport look? Firstly, there is AI technology connected to CCTV currently that use facial recognition technology to match passengers to data bases such as interpol, to determine whether passengers are on any watch, or wanted lists. This will reduce passengers needing to present documents to agents, though currently similar activities exist, such as checkin kiosks. Secondly, as it relates to searching bags, checkin and carry on, similar AI technology Can be used to screen passengers items as they enter the airport to determine whether any threat items are in their bags. That would reduce the need for security lines to screen passengers and their carry on bags, Thus reducing waiting time at airports. Of course there must be systems to deal with threats, where passengers present a potential risk to the airport operations and being able to resort to physical search procedures. I believe a greater need to make the travelling experience Seem less for passengers is the direction to go, while not compromising security of the travelling public #airports #security #avsec #caribbeanairports #tourism
