In that declaration, the United Nations’ most inclusive body recognized that peace “not only is the absence of conflict, but also requires a positive, dynamic participatory process where dialogue is encouraged and conflicts are solved in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation.” This declaration was part of the "Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace" adopted in 1999. Fostering a culture of peace involves promoting non-violence through education, dialogue, and cooperation, as well as adhering to values like respect for human rights, freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, and cultural diversity . This vision of peace is not just the absence of war, but a positive and active process that requires collective effort and commitment. We should all work towards promoting a culture of peace with various initiatives and resolutions aimed at promoting tolerance, understanding, and cooperation among nations and peoples. The idea of development and growth cannot be brought to fruition without peace as it is crucial to address the root causes of conflict. Key Principles of a Culture of Peace: - Respect for Life: Promoting non-violence and respect for human rights - Dialogue and Cooperation: Encouraging dialogue and cooperation to resolve conflicts - Freedom and Justice: Upholding freedom, justice, and democracy - Tolerance and Solidarity: Fostering tolerance, solidarity, and cultural diversity By embracing these principles, we can collectively cultivate the culture of peace. #United Nations #culture of peace 2024 #Peace for Nigeria

🗓️ 8 MAY: "What matters for peace? Enhancing accountability through measurement" at the Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development (SIPRI) Peace matters for the sustainability of almost every important aspect of society, but there is little evidence of what good investments in peace look like. The perspectives considered when measuring peace are often too short-term, too scattered, and too disconnected from people’s lived realities and how they want to build their societies. 🌐 Join CDA, Search For Common Ground, Conciliation Resources, and the Deputy County Governor of Murang'a County, Kenya to learn about the practical uses of the Peace Impact Framework, created to identify the essential elements of peace and how to measure it. As the Global Peace Ambassador for Nigeria, I am deeply committed to the values of peace, justice, and strong institutions, as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16). This year’s International Day of Peace, with the theme "Cultivate A Culture of Peace," serves as a reminder that peace is not just a destination, but a collective journey we must embark on every day. In this video, I lend my voice to highlight the urgent need for us all to foster a culture of peace in our communities, workplaces, and nations. Peace is more than the absence of conflict; it is about building bridges, encouraging dialogue, and creating systems that support justice and inclusion. As we work toward SDG 16, it’s important to recognize the role each of us plays in creating an environment where peace can thrive. I hope this video inspires you as much as it inspired me to continue advocating for peace. #theadeyemishukroh #GlobalPeaceChain #GlobalPeaceAmbassador #PeaceByDialogue #JourneyTowardsPeace #YesWeCan

🌍 International Day of Peace 🌍- Last weekend, as we mark International Day of Peace on September 21st, it’s essential to reflect on the challenges we face in building a peaceful world—especially in conflict-stricken regions. 💭 Globally, over 70 million people are displaced due to war, violence, and persecution. In 2023, conflicts in places like Ukraine, Yemen, and parts of Africa remind us of the immense human suffering caused by war. In Africa alone, conflicts in countries such as South Sudan, the Sahel region, and #Eastern_Congo continue to devastate lives daily, disrupt economies, and hinder development. 💡 WHY YOU AND I SHOULD CARE? Global peace as never been at threat than it is now, and the WW2 period. According to the Global Peace Index, #only_13%of countries #live_in_peace_today, with the majority still facing active conflict or instability. #Africa has borne the brunt of #more_than_30% of the world's conflicts in recent years, while it #accounts_for_just_16% of the global population. 🔑 How can we effectively build Peace? Achieving peace isn't just about ending wars; it's about building strong institutions, promoting justice, and creating sustainable solutions that address the root causes of conflict. For Africa and the world, this means ensuriong all children have the opportunity to build a better and peaceful future for themselves and all of us, and grow as leaders. It also means 4 actions: - Investing in #education to bridge the gaps of inequality and combat extremism and radicalization. - Empowering youth as #changemakers and #peacebuilders in their communities. - Supporting peacebuilding initiatives that focus on reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusive governance. - Strengthening regional and international cooperation to prevent conflicts before they escalate. 🤝Today, I challenge all of us to think about what we can do in our own communities to foster peace. Whether through small acts of kindness or supporting global peace initiatives, we all have a role to play in building a more peaceful and just world. Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, equality, and opportunity for all. #InternationalDayofPeace #PeaceBuilding #GlobalGoals #AfricaForPeace #YouthForPeace #SDG16 Katy NobleAdrien Goossens The proposed Hekima University Prince S. 🌍 In celebration of International Day of Peace this past 21st September, we at Afrika Nunya reflect on the ongoing challenges and opportunities for peace across Africa. While many regions face conflict and instability, we must also recognise the avenues for dialogue, reconciliation and sustainable development that remain open. The resilience of African communities and the dedicated men and women across the continent who work tirelessly for peace serve as a beacon of hope. Our Reflection Meetings on Peace and Security in Africa have created a vibrant platform for opinion leaders and experts to come together in a palaver-tree setting to share insights and recommendations for strengthening peace efforts across the continent. In our latest policy brief, 'Meeting the Challenges of Democracy in Africa'(see the link below), we analyse how poorly managed political processes can be detrimental to peace. The brief highlights the need for inclusive political frameworks and the crucial role of local knowledge in promoting stability and resolving conflicts. As we strive for a more peaceful Africa, let us continue to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaborative action. We invite you to join this important conversation! https://lnkd.in/eiVjKDu4 #InternationalDayofPeace #PeaceInAfrica #Democracy #PolicyBrief #ThinkTank

🌍 International Day of Peace 2024: "Cultivating a Culture of Peace" 🌿 Established by the United Nations in 1981, the International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21st. This day calls on all nations and people to pause hostilities and work together to promote understanding, tolerance, and nonviolence. This year’s theme, "Cultivating a Culture of Peace," reminds us that peace is not just the absence of conflict but an ongoing effort to build inclusive societies, ensure justice, and foster empathy and dialogue. In Nepal, where we have experienced conflict and peacebuilding, the need to cultivate peace is more relevant than ever. Peace Brigades International Nepal calls on all members of society—government, civil society, and individuals—to continue supporting marginalized communities, strengthening human rights, and empowering youth and women to lead peace efforts. Sustainable peace is a shared responsibility, and we must all nurture it. Today, let’s recommit to creating a culture of peace in our daily lives. Let’s act compassionately, seek dialogue over division, and work together for a more just and peaceful Nepal. Join us in making peace a daily action, not just a dream. #PeaceDay #CultureOfPeace #Nepal #PeaceAndJustice #HumanRights #PBI #InclusiveSociety #YouthForPeace #UNInternationalDayOfPeace 🕊️ 🌱

𝘕𝑒𝘸 𝘗𝑖𝘦𝑐𝘦 :𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 The United Nations (UN) defines peace as "a situation where there is respect for human rights and dignity, the rule of law, good governance, social and economic development, and environmental sustainability." This alone gives us clarity on the fact that when we talk of peace it means more than just the mere state of tranquility and the absence of hostilities. In this article, I shared insights on what peace means beyond no conflicts and China's role in Africa's peace building. David Fromkin, in his book "A Peace to End All Peace," quotes an English officer: "They fought a war that ended all wars, but they also made a peace that ended all peace." This quote deeply resonates with me. In my recent article , I explore the historical and moral responsibilities of European colonialism concerning the Kurdish and Palestinian issues. By analyzing over seven decades of conflict data from UCDP and its External Support in Conflicts dataset (part of my ongoing research), I have shown how the Palestinian issue has often been prioritized over the Kurdish issue. I discuss how current European demands for Palestinian independence could potentially affects Kurdish issue , addressing a situation for which Europe holds significant responsibility. 3moThe UNITED NATIONS liars discourage ALL dialogue! this is why they encourage all countries to have well equipped Armed Forces and why they have their own Armies. I hate the United Nations, United in helping countries organise wars, with the blessing of their obedient "Secretary" General, whose obligations is to ensure UN member countries make their war projects a reality. They call themselves UNITED but spend their time playing DISUNITED! abusing Human Rights, creating more refugees, etc. UNFORGIVABLE!
