During the last 17 years, Light IT Global has helped hundreds of healthcare startups bring their ideas to the world. And one of the most frequently asked questions I receive from people is, “What does the future hold?” I’m not an oracle by any means. However, I suppose I can share my observations on the matter. Stronger focus on innovation. Gone are the days when you could create a generic app and make a fortune out of it. The healthcare industry is extremely competitive, and you have to innovate to succeed, whether it means having a unique idea and doing something that has never been done before or relying on the latest technological advancements to ensure efficiency. In both cases, cooperation with IT providers is inevitable. AI is a new norm. Many still perceive AI/ML as cutting-edge technology. But that was the case about five years ago. Incorporating AI/ML in new digital healthcare solutions is nearly mandatory today because it provides a bunch of benefits without which you will not be able to withstand competition. The wearables boom is going to happen. While the modern healthcare industry already offers plenty of options for continuous monitoring devices, the selection will become even wider and more accessible. Rings, glasses, smart fabrics, prosthetics, patches, epidermal tech, you name it! More investment opportunities. Investors keep a close eye on the latest IT advancements and are willing to fund promising startups with strong potential. This is where mutual interests meet, as all the market players are determined to improve the quality of care and provide the best healthcare service they possibly can. Stronger collaboration between healthcare moguls and startups. Another area where cooperation is mutually beneficial. Startups bring ideas, new vision, and passion for innovation and large corporations have the means to implement said ideas and innovation. What do you think about my forecast and the future of healthcare startups in general? Would love to heal from you! #healthtech #digitalhealthcare #healthcare #startups #IT #innovation

"From Nokia to Cakes". I was recently asked my opinion on the state of (& future of) healthcare innovation. Using (nostalgic & delicious) analogies I tried to explain my views, especially with respect towards the following: *Ai hype vs Healthcare* - This is a super regulated, technologically limited, old-school-infrastructure-having, heavily politically sensitive industry. - Do you think that it will be possible for a startup, one day to another, to be able to replace doctors or key delivery components? No. - Yes, 'influencers' love talking about such things, and yes... in the distant future some of these things may come to pass -> but it will only be built off of the back of meaningful technological disruption at the foundational levels of healthcare. *Corner Cutting vs Healthcare* - It's somewhat normal for startups to cut corners. Speed, Growth, Revenue tend to be what most founders/investors cares about (& it can work well in non-regulated industries). - So when a lot of founders decide to build something within healthcare, an industry that has inefficiencies & opportunities for disruption apparently everywhere (ching ching rings the opportunity bell), the founder does everything they can to avoid regulatory / long-term / difficult / complex work (because this does not = Speed, Growth, Revenue). ...and here we are today. People trying to build next-gen, cutting edge applications (when the industry is run on Nokia phones). ...or if you like... Bakers trying to spread deliciously sweet & pretty icing, onto a cake made up of rancid sponge. Until we have more founders & investors who are able to take the (admittedly much harder) longer-term view on healthcare innovation, we're doomed to have flash in the pan innovations that never actually touch where it matters most (the regulated infrastructure that actually dictates, today & tomorrow, what is possible in healthcare delivery). #Healthcare #Healthtech #DigitalHealth #Startups

What Makes a HealthTech Startup Worth Investing In? HealthTech startups are reshaping healthcare delivery and patient care. To identify winners, focus on: 1. Tech Differentiation: Check if the startup uses cutting-edge technologies like AI, IoT, or big data to stand out in the market. Unique tech adds value and competitive advantage. 2. Market Need: Ensure the solution tackles a significant healthcare issue, such as improving access to care or managing chronic conditions. A clear problem-solution fit is vital. 3. Regulatory Readiness: Verify the startup complies with healthcare regulations (e.g., FDA approval, HIPAA compliance). This reduces legal risks and ensures smooth market entry. 4. Scalability Potential: Assess if the business model can expand beyond local markets, adapting to different regions or even global audiences. Scalability drives growth. Investing in HealthTech isn’t just lucrative; it’s an opportunity to shape the future of healthcare.
