April has been a particularly distressing month for women across Australia. It seems like each morning we wake to news that another woman has been murdered (not 'lost their life' - murdered), and these are just the stories we hear about. Mothers. Sisters. Daughters. Friends. Colleagues. Gone forever, swept up in the wave of gender-based violence that is tearing through our country. Sadly, many of these deaths could have been prevented, compounding the tragedy of bright lives cut too short and highlighting the failings of our justice system. It's easy to feel helpless. I know I often do. But there are small steps we can each take. Show up to rallies. Write to our MPs demanding funding and reform. Sign the petitions. Call out those who deny the problem. Make it known to the people around you that you are a safe space for them. Educate yourself on signs of domestic, financial and emotional abuse. Hold the men in your life accountable. Be accountable yourself. Model to your children what a healthy and safe relationship looks like. It is imperative that we come together and demand change. Today, if you can, please consider donating to the below charities which are doing incredible work to help end gender-based violence and to support victims. *** Women's & Girls' Emergency Centre (WAGEC) - a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community: https://lnkd.in/gmv-4VnM The Lisa Harnum Foundation (Official) - striving to prevent family violence and end the cycle of abuse through education and social change: https://lnkd.in/g_dGC8bb

🌍 Today marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence—but the work to end GBV is far from over. Over the past 16 days, we've shone a spotlight on the devastating effects of GBV on women, children, and families worldwide. As we close this important campaign, it’s crucial to carry the momentum forward. Gender-based violence persists as a global crisis: 🌟 1 in 3 women globally experiences physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. 💔 Millions of children witness or endure violence, leaving lasting scars on their lives. 🛑 Indigenous women, girls, and marginalized communities face disproportionately higher rates of violence. Ending GBV starts with action: At Mothers Matter Canada, we are committed to breaking the cycle of violence through initiatives like the SELF Program. This trauma-informed program provides safe spaces where mothers and children can heal, rebuild, and find the support they need to thrive. 🌟 Together, we can: - Build safer communities for women and children. - Support survivors with resources to heal and recover. - Challenge the societal norms that allow violence to persist. 💛 Let’s not let this momentum fade. Join us in taking action beyond these 16 days. UN Women has this week launched its 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. In response The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) has announced £225,000 of grants to grassroots organisations combating domestic abuse against women. TCFF has awarded grants to domestic abuse organisations including: Latin American Women's Aid, Karma Nirvana, The Angelou Centre, Panahghar, Women of Grace UK, Refuge, Solace Women's Aid and Advance Charity to support the vital work they do. Every 10 minutes globally, partners and family members kill a woman or a girl intentionally. Domestic abuse remains a critical issue in the UK and TCFF seeks to help provide life-saving and life-changing resources that offer hope and healing to women and children when they need it most. In recent months, we have also been proud to support the The Independent's Brick by Brick campaign for Refuge, which has now reached its target to raise £300,000 to build an innovative refuge – a true home where women escaping abusive partners, and any child or pet they bring with them, can be safe and recover. The stats are shocking. We are extremely honoured to be working with these stand-out organisations committed to making the world a safer place for women and girls. #NoExcuse

16 days. That’s all it takes to change lives—and this year, I’m inviting you to join me in making a real difference. I'm participating and supporting Rivina Foundation — a global foundation founded by human rights advocate and lawyer Anna Rivina, which helps Russian-speaking women in emigration who are facing violence. Any woman—from Canada to Tanzania—can get free consultations from crisis psychologists and access legal guidance in her country. She can find out her rights and what kind of support she can receive from local police or activists. To support their 2025 efforts, I’m offering 3 personal consultations —each worth $500. We can discuss topics from refining your product to crafting a winning strategy to secure millions in funding. This is a rare opportunity to access my knowledge and experience—I almost never offer consultations for sale! Here's how you can do it: 1. Fill out a quick request form by December 15 (attached in the first comment) 2. Wait for a message from the Rivina team 3. Make your donation 4. Get my contact info and we'll set up the consultation Your donation will fund crisis psychologists, legal experts, and Rivina's dedicated team to keep helping vulnerable women. Let’s face it: poverty and financial struggles are strongly linked to violence against women, putting them at higher risk. At the same time, experiencing violence can lead to poverty, as women may face costs like medical bills or lose income. Helping women gain financial independence—through things like owning land or having good jobs—can protect them from abuse. Combining this with efforts to promote fair treatment and equal rights for women and girls can create lasting positive changes and reduce gender-based violence. Together, we can make a real difference. Who’s with me? 🌟

Loving all the posts on violence against women across LinkedIn. My FB memories tell me that 10 years ago I was working on project with two Iranian refugee women who'd been photographers before they'd lost everything when fleeing violence. I'd set up a photo shoot at a local men's shed and had a camera donated for the cause. The women were nervous but excited about the opportunity (the first since leaving Iran). When we arrived, we were greeted by wolf whistles from the men. A good way to let women know they are not safe or welcome in this 'men's' space. There are so many ways women are disrespected. The org I was doing this job for was a job I took when desperate for income and agreed to a 30% fee reduction. They also decided at the end of the job, not to pay for the last 2 weeks of work, meaning I couldn't pay my childcare bill or my mortgage. The problem of respect for women is at all levels - in community spaces, on the street, in workplaces and in families. It's a problem with you, with me, with all of us and how we choose to behave towards each other. Changing this means effective education, just policing, stable childhoods, thriving communities, compassionate care, a fair economy, responsible government, flourishing and fair business. We have the solutions and there are many grassroots organisations like mine implementing those solutions. We can't do it alone. #violenceaaginstwomen #enoughisenough #familyviolence #respectwomen #wholeofcommunityapproches #grassrootssolutions #fundus #donatenow #marchforwomen #nextsteps #innovationapproaches #wholisticapproches #traumarecovery #traumasensitive

Insights from Snow Entrepreneur Ren Fernando and how ReLove is assisting women and children impacted by domestic violence and homelessness to enable them to restart their lives....

Did you know that, on average, a woman will return to a violent partner eight times? Women face the difficult choice between living in fear and experiencing poverty. The current domestic violence support package of $5,000, only provides $1,500 for furniture and homewares, which is simply not enough. At Relove we provide around $10,000-$15,000 of material aid and move women safely into their homes. This is what it takes. 15 women every week that have been impacted by domestic violence and homelessness. It is time that government support front line services like ours that are providing practical immediate assistance for women and children impacted by domestic violence. Fund the organisations that are doing the work. Thank you Kylie Grey for this opportunity for us to speak about the work we are doing at ReLove to address critical pathways for women leaving violent partners. Thank you Ruby Cornish for making this interview so comfortable. Ben Stammer Steph van Loon Jacki Goodridge Jade Bell Rachael Ottaway Brett MasonJames Roth Pippa Harrison Dr. Tim Sharp

This year I am once again participating in Polished Man - so if you bump into me during the month of October you will notice that one of my finger nails will be painted blue! This is a cause I feel particularly drawn to as an adoring Husband and Father of two daughters - no one should have to live in a world where domestic violence is such a massive societal challenge. In Australia, at least one woman a week loses her life to violence from a current or former partner. According to Destroy the Joint, this equated to the killing of at least 57 women in 2022 and at least 64 women in 2023 – statistics that paint a devastating picture, and one that sadly continues on in 2024. This violence disproportionately affects women, with intimate partner homicides involving a female victim and a male perpetrator being the most common type of femicide. While most men do not use violence against women and children and believe it to be unacceptable, many stand by and do little to prevent it, allowing it to continue. This is why Polished Man encourages men to step up, speak out and take a stand. Men have a positive and vital role to play in helping to stop violence against women and children. We want men to say enough is enough and take action to create a safer world for all women and children. It is called Polished ‘Man’, but we want to empower everyone to become part of the solution. We need as many hands (and nails) as we can get to tackle these global issues to make sure no woman or child has to live with violence. I would love it if you could donate to this great cause, and would love it even more if you would join the team and share in this vital conversation! I have started up a team (link below) so follow the prompts if you would like to join in, the more the merrier! Donate: https://lnkd.in/gBveniet Join the team: https://lnkd.in/gMupDWuh I appreciate you taking the time to read this post - even that is a huge help in raising awareness! Legend.
