I am with Frank Dehnhard this weekend preparing for #COP29 in Baku and it is mindblowing if you look at our world leaders both in politics and business! 💔 Why do they keep defending BaU Business as Usual ? 🤔 We have entered an entirely new phase of the climate crisis, and we are very worried it is not being recognized. This requires all climate activists #CSR managers #CSO s to profoundly re-assess, and completely renew their strategies, to avoid wasted effort. This entirely new phase in the climate crisis is caused by 2 main things. Climate change, induced events, like extreme weather are coming more regularly, and intensely. Valencia this week was just another WAKE UP CALL 🚨 It's now become clear that our leadership has no intention of taking appropriate action. For over 52 years governments have been pledging to take action as regards the ecological crisis, and in the last 32 years, to take action on the climate crisis The IPCC produced the SR15 in 2018, which was essentially a blueprint for holding warming to below 1.5C. Essentially, it concluded we needed to halve emissions by 2030, to be within about a 50:50 chance of achieving this. No major government has developed any sort of strategy, or has attempted to halve emissions by 2030. It looks like their policy, which actually result in higher global emissions by 2030. Much could be said about the #COP talks, who's main purpose, seems to have been to mislead the public, into believing that our governments and politicians were going to take action, that they had no intention of taking. Look at this picture from Valencia and let’s connect the dots for real #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/eTVWiRy2 #COP29 #Baku let’s connect the dots if you are in Baku let’s talk how we can unite and accelerate the transformation!

Today starts the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29). World leaders come together in Baku, Azerbaijan, intending to decide on new agreements concerning fossil emissions, solutions for current consequences of climate change, and - the million-dollar question - who will pay for all of this? At the same time, the European Copernicus Climate Change Service sounds the alarm: 2024 will be the first year when the world warms more than 1.5 degrees > the number over which the international community agreed it should not be passed. Evidently, there is no time to waste! ⏰ That's why TU/e scientists Heleen de Coninck and Pieter Pauw are closely monitoring the developments in Baku over the next two weeks. Last year, they did the same in anticipation of the UN Climate Summit (COP28) in Dubai: https://lnkd.in/e7gHDrww However, other scientists from our university are committed to sustainability as well. That's why we will be (re)sharing stories about relevant research the whole week on this platform. To showcase how we are contributing to a (hopefully) better world 🌍💚 #COP29 #Climatechange #Climatefinancing #Sustainability #Climatesummit #UN

Ahead of #COP16Colombia, and with 3 major environmental conferences taking place in quick succession, we think it is an important opportunity to recognize how the climate and nature crises are interconnected. We understand that our relationship with our natural world is broken. We are currently using resources equivalent to 1.7 Earths, far beyond what the planet can regenerate. As we approach critical moments for global decision-making, including the #COP16 in Colombia, #COP29 in Baku, and #UNCCDCOP16 in Riyadh, world leaders must heed this warning and take urgent action to transform our collective future. To galvanize action #ForPeopleForPlanet, and to make #PeaceWithNature, we wanted to create a resource for more people to get involved in the climate and nature movement. We know there are a lot of terms being used in negotiations and important discussions around climate and nature, and they can often be quite confusing. To help, we broke down 20 important terms and concepts related to the nature and biodiversity crisis. Cutting through the jargon and establishing a common understanding of the key terms used, check out our new Climate Dictionary: the Nature edition. ALLATRA took part (https://lnkd.in/e38-5Wdq) in the 🇺🇳UN Conference on Biodiversity (COP16) in Colombia, presenting analytical data on the causes of climate change and global solutions. 🌐 As part of its involvement in the COP16 “Green Zone” academic space, volunteers from the ALLATRA IPM hosted a conference titled “Climate Change and the 24,000-Year Cycle” and presented a specially prepared documentary (allatra.tv/en/video/clima…) titled Climate Crisis and Ocean Pollution: Global Challenges and Solutions. 📍A video address (https://lnkd.in/e6V2jumc) was also delivered by national security expert, ALLATRA representative, and particle physicist Dr. Egon Cholakian. He urged the global community to move from discussing the realities of the acute climate crisis to taking practical actions, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing climate and geodynamic challenges, “We must set aside the political and economic disputes that divide us and focus on the climate agenda which should become an absolute imperative.” 🌐 In the official COP16 “Blue Zone,” ALLATRA delegates participated in a virtual exhibit, where they presented documentary materials from the conference as well as the Report on the Progression of Climate Disasters on Earth and Their Catastrophic Consequences (allatra.org/reports). These materials were provided to key COP16 participants, including ministers and representatives from over 20 countries (Bhutan, Brazil, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Jamaica, Guinea, Honduras, Ecuador, Germany, New Zealand, South Korea, El Salvador, Vanuatu, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Switzerland, China, Colombia, Japan, Canada, Peru, Bolivia, India, Saudi Arabia). 📣ALLATRA (allatra.org)continues to actively inform the global community about the impact of natural climate cycles and emphasizes the need for collective action to address today’s climate challenges. ALLATRA’s participation in COP16 underscores the movement’s commitment to international cooperation for the preservation of life and climate stability on the planet. #allatra #creativesociety #COP29Baku #COP16 #COP16Cololombia #cop29 #climate #Thursday

#COP29Azerbaijan At the UN Climate Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, a landmark yet contentious deal was finalized: developed nations pledged to contribute at least $300 billion annually by 2035 to help developing countries combat and adapt to climate change. Key Aspects of the Agreement: 1. Mitigation: Supporting greener energy transitions, emission reductions, and sustainable practices in developing nations. 2. Adaptation: Preparing vulnerable communities through disaster resilience, climate-proof infrastructure, and safeguards against rising sea levels and extreme weather. 3. Global Equity: Reflecting the principle of shared but differentiated responsibilities, recognizing that poorer nations bear the brunt of a crisis they contributed little to. The Debate: Critics argue that the commitment, while significant, might still fall short given the magnitude of the climate crisis. Concerns also arise over the mechanisms for ensuring transparency and fulfilling previous unkept promises. This deal brings hope but also a stern reminder: global collaboration must translate into tangible results for those most vulnerable. For Mauritius: Climate change is a subject that affects every Mauritian, not just policymakers like Minister Bhagwan or Junior Minister Joanna Berenger. This global challenge demands awareness and action at all levels of society. On a personal note, my interest in this critical issue goes back to 2013, when I earned a Climate Literacy certification with distinction from the University of British Columbia. Following the developments at #COP29 closely is not just a choice—it’s a responsibility to stay informed and engaged in shaping a sustainable future. #climatechange #Mauritius
