Questions for you: Should humanity's first permanent steps into space look just like those on Earth today, or should we take the opportunity to consider how they could be better and strive towards that instead? Is space for an elite few, or is it for all of us? Who will ask the right questions and lead the way to an interplanetary future that's for all of humanity? The answer to at least the last question is the students who will be the recipients of this fund. There is real magic in giving students who never believed that space was something for *them* the opportunity to realize that space is *ours*, and they can be a part of it - a big part. One of the things I'm absolutely passionate about is helping people make this transformative leap in understanding, and when it's also helping students realize that they're the ones that will shape the future of space, I'm all in. Keystone Chief Scientific Advisor and Stanford University Graduate School of Business professor Susan Athey recently published groundbreaking research on optimizing charitable giving through digital platforms. Through experiments with over 2 million PayPal users, her team found that small changes to online donation requests can significantly impact giving behavior. Working with PayPal's Giving Fund and Stanford's Golub Capital Social Impact Lab where Athey leads as Faculty Director, the research reveals how personalizing suggested donation amounts based on donor characteristics can help nonprofits balance multiple fundraising objectives. In a recent School Management Plus article, IDPE CEO Louise Bennett highlights key findings from the latest The Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) & Gifted Philanthropy Schools' Fundraising and Engagement Benchmarking Report, showcasing remarkable growth in philanthropic income for schools. 📈 Between 2021-2023, 119 schools raised over £269 million in gifts and pledges, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Dow Championship Announces 2024 #TeamUp for the Great Lakes Bay Region Nonprofit Partners! @saginawstem was selected as one of the thirty-six (36) nonprofits that will participate in the Dow Championship charitable giving initiative. MIDLAND, Mich. – April 29, 2024 – The Dow Championship announced today the 36 nonprofits that will participate in the 2024 #TeamUp for the Great Lakes Bay Region charitable program with over 95 nonprofits in the Great Lakes Bay Region applying for the opportunity this year. Seven charities were selected from each of the region’s four counties – Saginaw, Bay, Midland, and Isabella – and eight regional nonprofits were also selected. These 501 (c) (3) nonprofits were selected based on their organization’s impact to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; sustainability; inclusion, diversity and equity (ID&E); community resiliency; and/or innovation in the region.

Did you know in Massachusetts, only 1.4% of charitable giving goes to organizations that serve women and girls? That is pitiful and why a group of local business women (myself included) are doing something to change that through the Women’s Foundation of Boston (WFB). WFB raises much-needed funds and distributes 100% of those dollars to existing local organizations to amplify their work in the economic empowerment of women and girls. Our grantee partners include Women’s Money Matters, Invest in Girls, Science Club for Girls, Strong Women Strong Girls, Girls Who Code, Economic Mobility Pathways, Center for Women & Enterprise, Women’s Lunch Place, and 22 others. All grants are dispersed in the areas of STEM education, leadership/mentoring, and financial empowerment (<---------Now you know what drew me to this amazing organization a few years ago and why I decided to become an Advisory Council Member.) Last week, I had the honor of hosting the Women’s Foundation of Boston with over 100 donors/supporters and over 20 grantee partners to celebrate the impact the WFB has made in the lives of over 16,000 women and girls across Massachusetts through the $6.1M in multi-year grants that have been awarded. Friends and Colleagues, The holidays are a time for giving. I ask that you consider donating to this wonderful organization that makes quality STEM educational opportunities available to minority and at-risk youth in the Mt. Vernon New York area, a predominantly minority community. We have an education deficit in our country, particularly in key subjects such as science, maths, engineering and technology, subjects which are critical to developing the skill sets necessary to perform many of the jobs available in the present and future economy. Due to underfunded and overstretched school systems and other factors, children in historically socioeconomically depressed areas such as Mt. Vernon often lack access to meaningful STEM educational opportunities to gain the skills they will need to be productive employees and members of society when they reach adulthood, which often results in them going down the wrong path and deprives our economy and society of capable workers. When they are unable to access quality STEM education through their school, children who are genuinely interested in learning about STEM subjects look elsewhere but often lack the financial resources to participate in private programs. Northeast STEM Starter Academy (NSSA) rectifies this by making STEM programming available to these kids and fostering their interest in these subjects. Children that come through the program often go on to obtain scholarships and attend university and participate in internship programs as they pursue their passions and careers. For example, a recent NSSA student completed her degree at a prestigious university and secured employment with a laboratory in which she interned while in school. NSSA is there for the kids who want to learn, and the kids and our society as a whole benefit from it. These children are America’s future, and properly educated, they will provide the human capital needed to power America’s economy tomorrow.
