Stop redeeming directly through the portal. Here’s what you should do: Learn which airlines miles transfer from your credit card. Transfer points strategically to get better value. For example: Transfer your points to Virgin Atlantic for Delta flights, British Airways for American Airlines and Alaskan or Air Canada Aeroplan for United flights. With a little effort, your points can take you further than you think. It's a lot more complex than this but I made a table to help.

To American Airlines and British Airways: I understand that you are both part of oneworld Alliance and that means that sometimes when you book a BA flight you end up on a flight operated by AA. Why is it then that when AA customer services fail and offer you a compensation in the form of a voucher, it can only be used on an AA operated flight and not on any airline part of Oneworld? It seems that there is one rule for big airline corporations and another rule for us humble customers 🤨
