While many of Global Grower Network’s urban garden growers are primarily cultivating food for their own families, 26% also look to their production to earn supplemental income that can greatly contribute to self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship. In some cases, gardens open a pathway that leads to scaled farming and farm business opportunities. Growers, if they choses, can secure a primary family income, and a family lifestyle, as farmers in Georgia, where the average farmer age has risen to 59, the number of farmers and available farmland is steadily decreasing year after year. Daily life in Grand-Bois is difficult. Agriculture is the sole source of revenue for the vast majority of residents. Farmers produce a variety of crops and raise livestock to diversify revenue sources. There is little economic activity or employment outside of agriculture, usually subsistence farming on small farms (2-4 acres) on which they grow food to feed their family and to sell a small amount in the marketplace. Through our Economic Development Committee (SHecon), we are working to improve economic outcomes in Grand-Bois, Haiti through several projects. ~ Coffee Trees Planting ~ Entrepreneur Training ~ Microfinance & Tailored-Lending ~ Emergency Financial Support Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gA4fWQGf You can help build a thriving economy in Grand-Bois today. For just $35, you can provide a sheep or goat to a family, giving them a vital source of income and sustenance. These animals play a crucial role in improving nutritional standards and provide opportunities for small businesses. Goats and sheep offer milk, meat, and wool, which can be used for personal consumption or sold in local markets. This not only improves the family’s diet but also provides a reliable income stream. By investing in livestock, families can build a small business that supports their financial independence and contributes to the local economy. What to do when you're the world's biggest earthworm farm, producing thousands of tonnes of vermicast every year & have an ethos that's all about supporting soil health? Enter our Target 1000 Programme 👋 Our mission: to donate 1000 tonnes of nutrient-rich vermicast to NZ community & planting projects 🌳 Vermicast, also known as worm castings, is a powerful organic fertiliser that improves soil health & boosts plant growth. By contributing to community gardens, urban green spaces & various other planting initiatives, we're committed to fostering sustainable & thriving environments. Why is this important? 🌱 Enhances Soil Health: Vermicast enriches the soil with essential nutrients, improves soil structure & increases organic matter. 🌱 Promotes Sustainable Agriculture: Supports sustainable farming practices & reduces the need for chemical fertilisers. 🌱 Strengthens Communities: Empowers local communities to establish more native plantings, to reduce erosion, improve water quality & store carbon. We believe that together, we can make a significant impact. Each of my amazing kids tends to 3 Hydro Coops, while Lize Marie leads the charge with an impressive 6 Coops. Together, they're making a profound impact on both our local community and the agricultural landscape. 🌾🚜 🐣🌿 In just six weeks, our family farm produces a staggering 2250 broiler chickens, securing a profit exceeding R140,000. But our mission goes beyond profits; it's about giving back. Every month, we're honored to donate over 6000 eggs and more than 5000 fresh vegetables to support local communities in need. 🥚🥕 Through Hydro Coops, we've not only found a sustainable source of income but also a platform for meaningful contribution. Our children are learning invaluable lessons in entrepreneurship, responsibility, and the joy of giving back. Farming is defined by cycles of life and death, the ebb and flow of the natural world. Each season has its end. But just like organic farming practices can have positive impacts for generations to come, in our lives there are ways we can plan to continue making a positive impact on this world long after we leave. August is Make-A-Will month, a poignant reminder to put our affairs in order. By incorporating Planned Giving into your will you can: 🌳 Leave a significant legacy - support a cause you care about, like organic farming, for generations to come. 🍃 Have flexibility - designate your gift to a specific area of our mission, or leave it unrestricted to be applied as needed. 🍀 Get tax benefits - we recommend talking to a financial advisor about how Planned Giving can work for you. Learn more about the advantages and ways you can leave a charitable contribution as part of your estate planning - visit our new Planned Giving page https://lnkd.in/gwRs_vDr And share this post if you know someone who cares about sustainable agriculture and wants to make a lasting impact. #RootedInLegacy #MakeAWillMonth #PlannedGiving
