🌍 Palestinian Authority Temporarily Suspends Al Jazeera Operations 🎥 📢 In a significant move, the Palestinian Authority has announced a temporary suspension of Al Jazeera's broadcasts across its territories, citing concerns over "inciting material" and accusations of content that "stirs strife." This decision follows tensions surrounding the network's coverage of recent clashes in the Jenin refugee camp. 🛑 While this suspension is limited to areas under the Palestinian Authority's control, Al Jazeera continues to operate freely in Hamas-run Gaza. 📺 Al Jazeera has labeled the decision as an attack on press freedom and has called for the Palestinian Authority to rescind the ban. 🚨 Context: Al Jazeera has faced mounting restrictions, including a raid in Ramallah by Israeli forces in September. Earlier, Israel banned Al Jazeera's operations, citing national security concerns. 🗨️ What are your thoughts on the balance between media freedom and national security? Should press coverage remain unrestricted even during heightened tensions? Let's discuss below! 👇

Egypt condemns Ethiopia's unilateral approach regarding Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in a letter to the UN Security Council. The letter, sent by Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, criticizes Ethiopia's plans regarding Nile dam's fifth filling and completion of its concrete structure, saying they violate international law. Egypt accuses Ethiopia of prolonging negotiations to impose a fait accompli and claims Addis Ababa is legitimizing its actions under the guise of the "right to development." Egypt says it is prepared to take necessary measures to defend its interests and emphasizes the need for cooperation and adherence to international law for Nile Basin development. Egypt's Supreme Committee for Nile Water has also called for strengthened cooperation within the Nile Basin, emphasizing its importance for regional prosperity and stability. https://lnkd.in/eDSvxGyq

Good to see that TRT World quoted on the #Ethiopia - #Somalia Ankara Declaration me but left out my other observation on the absence of the AfricanUnion & the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in the process as a missed opportunity, given that both the AU and IGAD are not only stakeholders but also custodians of regional stability, with the mandate to mediate and ensure African solutions to African challenges. Their inclusion could have amplified regional ownership of the process and enhanced the prospects for lasting peace by embedding the agreement within a broader regional framework. https://lnkd.in/ezJTHQCT
