Sitting on a scholarship committee is an experience for which no one can prepare you. For time immemorial, each new generation is somehow stereotyped as lacking what those who came before them possessed: work ethic, grit, gratitude, etc. Volunteering on a high school scholarship committee will alter any preconceived notions like these. Two things you can anticipate thought this experience: 1. Sitting awestruck at the magnitude of achievements that is required these days to compete for limited (and expensive) spots at higher education institutions. 2. Crying. (#iykyk) In this type of environment, it is necessary to establish and maintain standards that hold volunteer committees accountable AND help guide their decision making. This year, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation supported the administration of over $1.6M to 140 Tahoe Truckee Unified School District high school seniors. We aim to fill financial gaps by offering fair and impartial opportunities to all eligible applicants, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances. This takes thoughtful consideration, and intentional design around each phase in our annual scholarship cycle- from application design to unconscious bias training to financial formulas. Check out this article written by Dana Crary, Community Impact Officer, that is literally becoming an operations manual for how we do business. #scholarships #DEI #financialscholarships #merit #unconsciousbias #training #communityfoundation

Your CCT program is very good when it comes to promoting coexistence between wildlife and people.
This stunning shot of a cheetah was captured in our Community Camera Traps from the community of Koija in Laikipia, Kenya. This cheetah will gain the community points through our Community Camera Trapping + programme. In the previous three months the community used their CCT+ benefits to contribute to 50+ student bursaries, a win win for conservation and education outcomes for the community!

Our fearless leaders have done it again - many thanks to Reagan Mickey, Mitchell Jenkins, Alison Celigoi, MPH, and Alex Perdziola for again getting PYP another unique event to support #pittsburgh! Did you know that companies offer paid #volunteer time? This is an unheard-of perk about which PYP wants to educate its members for its upcoming event with Junior Achievement USA and its Biz Town event on Monday, April 22, starting at 8 AM! JA Biz Town is a mini city like no other, offering students in grades 4-6 fun, innovative, and exciting programming that brings learning to life, connecting the dots between what they learn in school and how it’s applied in the real world. Some life lessons that are taught to these students include: · Rights and responsibilities of citizenship · How to be entrepreneurial · How to apply for, obtain, and be successful at a job · How to write checks, use debit cards, and manage money effectively · How the economy works and more! This is a way to inspire and prepare young people for success. As a Junior Achievement volunteer, you will inspire kids to achieve a more fulfilling career and life by contributing your professional insights and personal experiences to the programs you teach. Unsure if your company offers this amazing #opportunity? See the attached photo for some companies we know want you to volunteer! If you have questions about the event itself or if you feel unsure of how to inquire about the ability to have your work sponsor your volunteer hours, contact info@pyp.org. #youngprofessionals #pittsburgh #communityoutreach #professionaldevelopment
