North Carolina is home to more than 475 wild bird species - thanks in part to the state’s diverse habitats that range from the high mountain peaks to coastal marshes. Trees provide birds with nesting sites, cover from inclement weather, food, and protection from preying animals. Different species of birds often prefer different types of trees to nest. Many birds like to build their nest 10-20 feet off the ground where they are closer to food sources and in proximity to other birds. Ways to help Trees ! 𝗔 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲! I recently came across a video that left a lasting impression on me. It captured a baby white bear climbing aboard a ship, delightfully engaging with the sailors, sharing moments of play and affection, and even enjoying a meal before being safely returned to its mother. Watching this rare and tender interaction between humans and wildlife was truly moving. However, beyond the joy this video brings, it also serves as a powerful reminder of an urgent reality. In the icy landscapes of Arctic, polar bears are facing a growing threat of extinction. Climate change, melting ice, and diminishing food sources are putting their survival at significant risk. Moments like these highlight the beauty of nature and the responsibility we hold to protect it. This story is a call to action—to raise awareness, support conservation efforts, and ensure these majestic creatures continue to thrive in their natural habitats. Let’s turn this heartwarming encounter into inspiration for meaningful change. Every small step counts when it comes to preserving our planet’s fragile ecosystems. If this story resonates with you, share it, and let’s spark a conversation about the importance of wildlife conservation. If this one doesn't melt your heart, then I don't know what to say 🙂. #ProtectWildlife #PolarBearAwareness #Sustainability #ClimateAction #tuesdaymotivation #wildlife #wildlifeconservation

OCEANS ALIVE CONSERVATION TRUST OUR OCEANS • OUR FUTURE Let's love, respect, appreciate and protect our oceans, nature, wildlife, and our amazing planet. World Manta Day 2024 World Manta Day is celebrated annually on September 17th to raise awareness about manta rays, their conservation, and the threats they face. Manta rays are gentle giants of the ocean, known for their grace and intelligence. Unfortunately, they are increasingly threatened by habitat destruction, climate change, and illegal fishing practices, especially for their gill plates, which are used in traditional medicine. World Manta Day brings attention to these majestic creatures and encourages global efforts to protect them and their habitats. Through educational campaigns, conservation initiatives, and awareness events, the day aims to foster a greater appreciation for manta rays and the vital role they play in marine ecosystems. It also emphasizes the importance of sustainable marine practices to ensure their survival for future generations. CORAL REEF STEWARDSHIP FUND: National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Since 2000, NFWF has responded to the alarming decline in both the quantity and productivity of the world’s coral reef ecosystems through multiple coral conservation initiatives that aim to improve management, increase public awareness, and reduce threats to coral reefs both domestically and internationally. NFWF works with local, state, federal and regional partners to explore new techniques for addressing persistent, practical challenges faced by coral reef managers – such as non-point source pollution, over harvest of functional reef species, vessel damage and environmental stressors. The IUCN Red List now includes 166,061 species, with 46,337 threatened with extinction. This update shows that more than one in three tree species globally is at risk of extinction. For the first time, a majority of the world’s tree species have been assessed, with 16,425 of 47,282 species at risk. Tree species now account for over a quarter of all threatened species on the Red List, surpassing threatened birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians combined. “This assessment enables us to make better-informed conservation decisions and take action to protect trees where it is urgently needed,” says Dr. Malin Rivers, lead of the Global Tree Assessment. The Global Tree Assessment involved over 1,000 experts and highlights the urgency of climate action. Trees on islands face unique threats, including deforestation, invasive species, and climate change. In South America, which has the world’s highest tree diversity, forest clearance for agriculture is putting 3,356 tree species at risk. #Deforestation #ForesLoss #IUCNRedList #ClimateAction

Restoring Peatlands for Climate Action 🌍 The Wildlife Trusts are leading efforts to restore 60,000 hectares of UK peatlands, crucial for capturing carbon and supporting biodiversity 🌿 However, much of this work is missing from the UK Government's Net Zero strategy, which underestimates the scale of restoration efforts. Healthy peatlands act as carbon sinks, but 80% are degraded, releasing emissions. Accurate reporting and increased transparency are needed to better account for this vital work. Peatland restoration is key to meeting climate goals! 🌎 #NetZero #Peatlands #CarbonSequestration #Biodiversity #WildlifeConservation #ClimateAction #Sustainability #UKEnvironment #GreenRecovery #PeatlandRestoration https://lnkd.in/eygSSYnH
