According to Hannah Arendt, the worst aspect of being a refugee is the loss of the right to have rights, which is realized when one is part of a political community. Refugee literature and policies need to stop treating refugees as individuals with special needs who must be given charity. Instead, it is necessary to restore their right to have rights. Refugees do not need humanitarian aid and the condescension that often accompanies it. Refugees need rights so they can build their lives as normal human beings like everyone else. This is the crucial turning point needed in dealing with refugees.

#Collaboration ▶ It's so good to exchange ideas with partners who have the same goal. ▶ We want a world in which people are not forced to leave their homes because war, violence and lack of protection force them to do so. ▶ Nobody is a refugee by choice! ▶ UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's National Partners in Europe met in Stockholm to exchange ideas and talk with #UNHCR colleagues about how to mobilize even more direct support from civil societies for UNHCR. ▶ Together we stand #withrefugees

World Refugee Day is observed annually on June 20th. This date celebrates the resilience, courage, and impacts of refugees worldwide. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of forcibly displaced individuals and advocating for their rights, protection, and well-being. Every year, We Are All America (WAAA) invites local leaders, partners, and advocates to join a series of impactful actions and events aimed at celebrating our refugee communities, engaging local elected officials, and learning more about ways to support refugees and refugee resettlement. As part of these efforts, WAAA, Refugee Congress, Refugee Advocacy Lab, and IRAP are launching a Digital Week of Action, a dynamic initiative designed to mobilize the field of forcibly displaced people and their supporters. This week-long campaign harnesses the power of social media, online platforms, and digital advocacy to amplify the voices of refugees, share their stories, and highlight the urgent need for robust refugee protections and resettlement programs. https://lnkd.in/gBxPEivU

Calling all #UPSers to a webinar on standing #withrefugees to mark #worldrefugeeday. For many, home is a sanctuary - a place of comfort and familiarity. However, for some people in our world today, home is nowhere. The United Nations predicts that by 2024, over 2.4 million refugees will be in desperate need of resettlement; marking an alarming increase of 20% compared to last year's figures. Furthermore, it's anticipated that almost 63 million individuals will be displaced due to violence and conflict. The Global Multicultural BRG in partnership with the UPS Foundation invites you all to join us for a special webinar. Come hear the stories of UPSers who have experienced war, been refugees and hear how they ended up at UPS! External speakers from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency will share how UPS is standing together #withrefugees and what you can do to help. RWLOs describe how they are often the first responders to humanitarian crises and displacement, providing lifesaving GBV services and support alongside other interventions that tackle the underlying drivers of inequality, often with limited or no funding.
