✨Here’s a quick recap of our latest initiative! The Tissue Issue project, a collaboration between the Global Shapers Community - Singapore Hub and The Signpost Project, brings together two youth-led organizations currently working to develop actionable recommendations to help tissue sellers transition to sustainable livelihoods. As part of this mission, the team recently conducted a workshop for Youth Corps Singapore’s Mission X Programme, a leadership camp connecting youths from various universities who share a passion for community service. 🎓🌏 This impactful session delved into the complex realities faced by elderly tissue sellers, shedding light on their challenges and resilience. Participants were empowered to tackle real-world issues, using the Theory of Change Framework to develop practical, actionable #solutions for poverty alleviation and #eldercare. 💼💡 By bridging insights with empathy, the Tissue Issue project hopes to inspire a future where dignity and sustainable change are accessible to all. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey to build a more inclusive and compassionate society 🌟 #YouthEmpowerment 🌟 #SocialImpact #TheoryOfChange 📊 #CommunityBuilding #TheTissueIssue 💬 #SingaporeInitiatives 🛠️

***Throwback almost 5 years ago! Grateful for the power of networks and strategic partnerships to create lasting impact in places never thought possible before. In 2019, at a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) side meeting in New York City, Through Teach For All For All leadership, I met leaders from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) such as Briar Thompson, who introduced me to @Schenk Mills of #BCG #Nairobi office. BCG not only visited Teach For Uganda, but also committed to helping us craft a #strategicplan, #implementationroadmap, and #fundraisingtools that would set us on the road to scale and achieve impact in communities where children 👧🏾 👦🏽 are most affected by learning poverty. Their support transformed TFU, helping us scale from 2 districts to 10. Thanks to BCG, we built trust with current partners and attracted new ones, significantly increasing our impact. ***Lesson: #Strong #privatesector and #civilsociety #partnerships, fueled by #networks, can drive #sustainabledevelopment, #impact real lives, and bring hope to communities. Such collaborative efforts achieve progress towards #SustableGoals that no single entity—government or private sector—could accomplish alone. Watch the video to see the incredible impact:

International MSME Day is marked on 27th June each year since 2017 to shine light on the global resilience, creativity and hardwork of small business owners and entrepreneurs. This year's theme is "MSMEs and the SDGs" with a focus on leveraging power and resilience of MSMEs to accelerate sustainable development and eradicate poverty in times of multiple crises. This day offers an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on how key stakeholders, including policy makers, large companies, financial institutions and the international community can support MSMEs to advance the 2030 Agenda and contribute to achieving the SDGs, including poverty eradication and decent work for all. With just 6 years away from 2030 deadline to achieve SDGs, we are far from achieving the goals. #msmeday #sustainability #unsdgs #economicgrowth #sustainabledevelopment

At Briyah Institute we look for best #practices to promote positive #impact on people and planet. Laser focused approaches may have specific benefits, but real transformation happens when we act from different fronts at the same time and in a concerted fashion. A systemic approach creates a pull effect that elevates all those involved. This is what happens when we apply the methodology developed by Instituto Dara - Dara Institute, initially focused on improving health conditions directly only, to creating an integrated Family Action Plan (PAF), which includes health and goes beyond this realm to also include 4 social determinants of health: education, housing, income generation, and citizenship. The end result is dignity, overall improvement in all the areas worked upon, and more: #poverty alleviation. How can you effectively promote positive impact as a leader? One option is to learn about systemic approaches, such as the PAF methodology, and apply it as well -- https://lnkd.in/eqzgbRt8. Here is the link to the book that tells the whole story to inspire you -- https://lnkd.in/eJd48MSn. And follow Briyah Institute to learn more about how to apply systems thinking to business and life. Another way is to donate directly and expand the outreach of the program -- https://lnkd.in/eqPsCyvr. #systemsthinking #leadership #innovation #practice #purpose #poverty

Poverty is good food for talk But where are the actionable thoughts? While talking poverty – and its eradication – today, International Day for Eradication of Poverty sounds perfunctory, let’s go with it, recognizing the occasion and the severity of the situation. Half the world population is still living in poverty. Poverty is something like putting on weight – controlling, stemming it is easier than bringing it down later. We need to stop it from the start through systematic interventions – from not just governments, but civil society and corporates. To quote UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, ‘Ending global poverty demands we prioritize investments in decent work, learning opportunities and social protection.’ Along with regimental policies, CSR and triple bottom line should be taken seriously – working should be for profit, planet and people. Sharing a film I did a few years ago during my days as a development communication specialist. This was for Twenty20, the CSR wing of a leading garment manufacturer based in Kerala, India. The film shows how Twenty20 developed the company’s home village, Kizhakkambalam, across themes from housing and education to medical care and food security. That with the later foray of Twenty20 into politics I ceased my association is a different story. But what must be noted here is the big role corporates can play in development goals. Twenty20 is a sustainable model, replicable anywhere in the world. But you need companies with a conscience and not just those looking at CSR as mandatory. Stopping poverty from the start – which should get equal importance as its reduction – is achievable through strategic, sustainable, practices and policies covering different aspects of inclusive economic growth including education and skilling, access to medical and financial services, gender equality, social and environmental protection. Twenty20 might not have met its objectives and glorious ambitions, but it remains a lodestar for all CSR activities in the state, probably nation even. A good start to every kind of action that can end a malaise that shouldn’t be around in this modern world.
