We mostly learn when something hits home. Untill a very dear person started fighting the ravaging realities of diabetes, I did not know "Diabetes was Diabetes". Diabetes silently destroys lives, causing devastating complications that can lead to blindness, organ failure, amputations, heart disease, and stroke. These life-altering consequences underscore the urgent need for collective action. It is crucial we prioritize prevention, early detection, and effective management to mitigate the impact of diabetes on individuals, families, and communities. Fortunately, diabetes can be managed and, in some cases, prevented. Understanding the causes of diabetes empowers individuals to make informed choices. Encourage friends and family to get screened, create awareness within your circle, support awareness initiatives, support diabetes research and as much as you can, break barriers that hinder people from accessing the much needed care. Do not wait till it hits home.
This World Diabetes Day, let's unite in #BreakingBarriers and #BridgingGaps to ensure everyone can access quality diabetes care and support. Together, we can make a lasting impact and build a healthier future for all. #NCDs #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesAwareness #HealthEquity #CHELD

Earlier this year, our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It was a life-changing moment, filled with uncertainty and challenges. But as we navigated this new reality, we discovered resilience, hope, and the power of modern technology. The journey hasn’t been easy—it’s a condition that impacts not just the individual but the whole family. From sleepless nights to learning about blood sugar management, every step has been a learning experience. Yet, through it all, we’ve grown stronger as a family. What gives us even more hope is how far medical technology has come. Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) and insulin pumps have been game-changers, allowing us to manage diabetes more effectively and giving us more peace of mind. To anyone facing this journey, you are not alone. Take it one step at a time, focus on the positives, and lean on your support network. Let’s use this day to spread awareness, celebrate the advancements in diabetes care, and offer encouragement to those who need it most. #WorldDiabetesDay #Type1Diabetes #FamilyStrength #DiabetesAwareness

Today starts the first day of diabetes awareness month. We knew of T1D but we didn’t know the specifics, nor the signs until we were in it. We could’ve lost our son on December 31, 2014. Take just a few moments to review this post. Know that 50% of new diagnoses are in adults and nearly half of them are initially misdiagnosed because even in healthcare there are old assumptions still at work. #T1D #diabetesawarenessmonth
