Attention #geotechnicalengineers, #bridgeengineers and #marineengineers: #Ship impacts can apply massive loads on #bridge piers. In this example, I took a typical 100k vessel impact load, applied 30 ft above the cap initially, and progressively increased the load to 20000 k, which is likely close but perhaps smaller than the load that the Francis Scott bridge experienced. This is an imaginary bridge pier with 12 - 90 inch diameter piles. At the 100k typical #ASCE7-22 impact load the pier displaces about 0.5 inches. At 20000k the displacements increase to 29 inches and the piles fail structurally. The analysis was performed with our #DeepFND #deepfoundation software and included water flow loads. This unfortunate event reminds us that the public should pay more attention to our #infrastructure before it collapses. Follow Deep Excavation LLC for more.

I'm excited to share with you my achievement in my land surveying career. Over the past few weeks, I was busy setting up this Overhead Traveling Crane (OHTC) lane which is 21.080 meters apart. The following requirements were adhered to when setting up the OHTC: 1: Alignment along one rail 2: Height difference along one rail 3: Parallelism of two lanes 4: Height difference between two lanes parallel to each other. The task was quite challenging, but it was executed with maximum care, and eventually, the required accuracies were attained. As a result, it had to be tested before the operation started. The tests included: 1: Functional test 2: Load test 3: Static load test 4: Dynamic test It was a remarkable experience indeed. #surveylife #surveyors #sokkia

Throw Back Thursday: If you're in marine construction, dredging, or hydrography, take a moment to reflect on the specs and performance of the equipment you started with. Now, compare it to what's available today. It's amazing how good technology becomes "utility like" and improves over time! #measutronics #trimble #trimblemarine #marineconstruction #dredging #dredgingequipment #pilebuck #connstructionsafety #safety #gnss #technologyadoption #technologytrends

Marine piling creates stable foundations for offshore structures like bridges, piers, and oil platforms. It involves driving large steel or concrete piles deep into the seabed using specialized equipment. Precision and expertise are crucial to ensure stability and longevity in the challenging underwater environment. #SafetyFirst #StaySafe #SafetyAware #SecureLife #ProtectionPledge #SafetyCulture #SafeHands #PreventionPriority #SafetyIsKey #GuardedLif #SafeJourney #SafetyNet #SecureSteps #SafetyCheck #ProtectAndProsper #safetyjobs #experttrainersacademy

With April being safe digging month I find that these images provide an excellent reminder of why it's important to think about damage prevention when planning any excavation. Activities causing ground disturbance can include, but are not limited to, the following: •digging •excavation •trenching •ditching •tunneling •plowing •tree planting •blasting/use of explosives If your excavation will be exceeding the allowable depths of 30cm at the minimum: •Click before you dig •Plan to allow enough time for marking facilities •Respect and maintain the markers •Excavate with authorization Cutting corners can lead to financial loss, loss of essential services or paying the ultimate price for you or someone else. And for damage prevention and locate needs think Centerline Geomatics, offering One Call Management, professional locate technicians and hydro-vac services. #knowwhatsbelow #clickbeforeyoudig #locates #digsafe #damageprevention #Centerlinegeomatics #Construction #pipeline #civilconstruction #oilandgas

Before any excavation begins, STRATA engineers meticulously mark our test pit explorations. Following this, we promptly contact Idaho Digline to identify and mark any public utilities on site. Whether the excavations are borings, test pits, or rock probes, safeguarding against accidental strikes on public utilities is paramount to prevent service disruptions and injuries. #GeotechnicalEngineering #ExcavationSafety #ConstructionSafety #STRATA #EngineeringExcellence

Welcome back to Toolbox Talks! Up next... Trenchless Technology 📣Topic: Using Trenchless Technology in Connecticut 👍Underlying Rule: The excavator must use proper care when utilizing trench‐less excavation; If such excavation is expected to cross or encroach within the approx. location of underground facilities either horizontally or vertically, the excavator shall determine the actual location of such facilities prior to crossing or encroaching the location of the facility. 🤔Curious Questions: - When using trenchless technology, do all utility crossings need to be exposed? - What are two other names for trenchless technology? Download "Volume 4: Don't Take a Shot in the Dark" to see the answers and review more details with your team! https://loom.ly/MTTLoo0 #ExcavationSafety #DigSafe #ToolboxTalks #CBYD

We are present in... 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 Activity under Port Crane We undertook the geotechnical improvement of low bearing capacity ground to eliminate stoppages due to imbalance or settlement. This involved reinforcing the ground and installing a high-capacity gantry crane to enhance the stability and efficiency of port operations. #GeotechnicalImprovement #PortOperations #GantryCrane #GroundStability #Infrastructure #EngineeringSolutions #CivilEngineering #ConstructionInnovation #Spain #ATEGLOB
