Many requirements to “measure strain” outdoors, such as monitoring structures such as Bridges, and Antennas, or durability of Railway Rails, require “waterproof” Sensors. Reducing installation time, especially when there are many measurement points, is an important consideration. Consider the option to use “special purpose” Strain Gages (KFWB, KFWS) that are made “waterproof” in advance which significantly reduces the time of on-site installation, while maintaining integrity and performance. For ”long term” measurement requirements, KYOWA offers a “weldable waterproof” Strain Gage (KCW), which has the Sensor part within a sealed structure, that can be installed by spot welding, and can even be used underwater (9.81 MPa).

Flow direction through a globe valve significantly impacts its operation, efficiency, and even its longevity. Here's how it works: When installing globe valves, a common point of confusion is understanding flow direction—especially considering the valve's uni-directional nature or "Preferred Installation Direction." 🔧 Flow Under Seat (Flow to Open): The flow comes from below the seat. It allows easier opening against pressure but can be less stable under high throttling conditions. Flow to open is generally best in lower flow applications. 📏 Flow Over Seat (Flow to Close): The flow enters from above the seat. This can reduce the impact of high-pressure drops by diffusing flow. Normally used in high pressure applications to stabilize the stem and reduce the potential for cavitation. A potential disadvantage of flow to close is reduced flow capacity. The confusion arises because globe valves are often seen as uni-directional, yet they can be installed for different purposes depending on the application. The key is knowing how the flow direction affects performance. Always double-check with the valve’s manufacturer before installation to ensure optimal performance and minimize issues in service. 🔍 #GlobeValves #ValveInstallation #FlowDirection #IndustrialAutomation #Troubleshooting

What are some key considerations when selecting a valve for a process? 1️⃣ Application - what will the valve be doing? 2️⃣ Cost - this is usually a key consideration for clients. 3️⃣ Lifespan - how long will the valve be required to operate for? 4️⃣ Customer preference - is there a coating or material preference? Among the more technical consideration, these are some of the first discovery questions we ask ourselves and our clients when putting together a proposal. Over the next few weeks, let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of different types of control valves, starting with globe valves. Which applications do you think these are most suitable for? #MASCOTIndustrial #engineeringschool #valvefacts #controlvalve #globevalve
