This weekend, we hosted an inspiring Reverse Tashlich Beach Cleanup at Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara! With 25 dedicated volunteers, we worked together from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM to remove trash and help protect our precious coastline. Reverse Tashlich is a new Jewish tradition. Water symbolizes life and renewal and rebirth. Reverse Tashlich takes that principle a step further by encouraging us to remove our physical impact from the ocean, aligning with our collective responsibility to care for the environment. The ocean is vital to life on Earth—it provides 50% of the oxygen we breathe, sustains marine ecosystems, and regulates our climate. It’s crucial that we, as stewards of this planet, protect it for future generations. We invite you to follow our journey and support our mission to build a global community of ocean advocates. Together, we can foster ocean health, protect marine life, and create lasting change. 🌍💙 Join us at Marine Conservation Network to stay updated on future initiatives, learn how you can get involved, and help us make oceans of difference! 🔗 Follow us: @MarineConservationNetwork 🔗 Website: marineconservationnet.org #ReverseTashlich #BeachCleanup #MarineConservation #Sustainability #TogetherWeMakeOceansOfDifference #GlobalOceanCommunity #OceanAdvocacy #EnvironmentalResponsibility #LeadbetterBeach #SantaBarbara #JewishValues #ConservationLeadership

Beaches and streams strewn with cigarette butts, plastic bottles, wrappers, and more. Another reason to help friends end smoking? (So many have done it and feel better). Another reason to take, order, or sell reusable glass or stainless steels bottles or water in glasses? Make our own sandwiches 🥪 in the reuseable bread bags, or take a salad or cooked lunch in a lunchbox? And email and ask our MPs to pass more laws for taxes on single use plastics, join Greenpeace or an Org advocating that for you, and (if tactical), vote for an MP whose party might do more of that. And if you are a business, start working with Cleanhub (feel free to DM me to find out more).
What are the most common types of trash found in our waterways and beaches? 🤨 These are the results from the International Coastal Cleanup in 2022. 👀 The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is one of the world’s biggest volunteer efforts for ocean health. Every year, people worldwide collect waste from beaches, rivers, and underwater sites and in 2022 over 469,000 volunteers collected 3.7 million kilograms of waste! 🌊 Identifying types of marine litter is especially important as it helps target prevention and cleanup efforts. 💪

Making Waves with the Last Stop: The Ocean Toolkit #ECOSALUDGLOBAL Let’s talk about litter! Since 2017, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) has been facilitating collaboration and developing tools to address land-based marine litter in North America. Today, we are thrilled to invite you to embark on this journey with us to raise public awareness about marine litter and make meaningful change with the free Last Stop: The Ocean Toolkit! Trash Travels: A Journey to the Ocean. The moment your waste falls on the ground, it begins its journey to the ocean—even if you don’t live anywhere near the coast. Litter travels to faraway places via storm drains, streams, canals and rivers. Along its journey, litter harms wildlife and pollutes our rivers and lakes. With a few small actions, we can make a difference in our communities and help protect wildlife, our oceans, the environment and the planet! https://lnkd.in/eZs5Bev5

🌲 West Virginia's forests, including the Monongahela National Forest, play a critical role in protecting waterways and providing habitat for endangered species. The U.S. Forest Service is proposing changes to safeguard old-growth forests, but we believe more must be done. Tell the Forest Service to strengthen their plan to fully protect older trees, prevent unnecessary timbering, and safeguard vital habitats. Public comments are due by September 20, 2024. Speak up today to protect our forests and water: https://lnkd.in/ejYVvpcG For clean water, healthy forests, and the Hellbender!

The MCS Beachwatch 2023 results are in... Beachwatch is an annual coastal clean-up initiative by Marine Conservation Society where volunteers come together to protect and preserve the UK's precious shorelines. Check out some of the highlights: 🚮 Litter Cleanup: 480,343 items of litter were removed, marking a 22% increase from 2022! Every piece counts in the mission to keep the ocean clean. 🌊 Plastic Problem: Approximately 78,861 single-use plastic items were collected, including plastic pieces, packets, caps & lids, and bottles. There was a 5% decrease in plastic cutlery, trays, and straws compared to 2022, and a 14% decrease in cotton budsticks. These changes likely reflect the positive impact of policies and bans concerning single-use products. 🏖️ Beach Length Cleaned: Volunteers cleaned an impressive 148km of beach, ensuring that these beautiful stretches of coastline remain pristine. Unfortunately, there was a 17% increase in litter found on average. Why not join MCS next time to help preserve our coastlines and protect marine habitats for generations to come 🌊💙 ! https://lnkd.in/dFjcYZB Follow The Marine Diaries for more 📷 Kirsty Crawford #Beachwatch2023 #CleanCoasts #ProtectOurOcean #BeachClean #TheMarineDiaries #MarineConservationSociety

The continued efforts of groups like The Nature Conservancy in restoring longleaf pine forests across the region have contributed significantly to the growth of red-cockaded woodpeckers, one of the best-known animals that thrive in longleaf forests. Throughout the Southeast, a coordinated effort is underway to conserve and restore these rich and vital forests that run through the heart of Mississippi. Spanning nine states in the U.S. southeast, we’re working together to restore and manage longleaf pine forest from Texas to Virginia. Longleaf pine once dominated the coastal plain blanketing more than 90 million acres. Today there are just 5.2 million acres, up from an historical low of 3.2 million acres two decades ago.

Please sign and share!! Balloons don’t belong in our ocean!! 🚫🎈Keep Balloon Litter Out of Our Ocean!! This is a huge pet peeve of mine, your balloons do not go to Heaven, they just kill animals, what a beautiful way to honor your loved one! 😡😡 Balloons that are released into the sky eventually return to the ground, often landing in the ocean. Once there, they cause immense harm to marine ecosystems. Every year, seabirds, turtles and other marine creatures are killed by ingesting or becoming entangled in balloon debris. Here are a few shocking statistics that show just how dangerous balloons can be to ocean wildlife: ICC volunteers have picked up over 1.8 million balloons on coastlines worldwide. Seabirds are 32 times more likely to die from ingesting balloons than from hard plastics, making balloons the deadliest plastic for seabirds. A study found that 78% of rubber debris ingested by sea turtles came from balloons. https://lnkd.in/ea_K99_j

When we conserve water, we are protecting the planet… …we’re safeguarding life—ours and every other living being’s. Animals depend on the same water sources we do. 🦌 When rivers dry up, wildlife has no choice but to suffer. They can’t simply turn on a tap. Without sustainable actions, species that share this Earth with us are left vulnerable, facing thirst and extinction. 🌍 When we take steps to conserve water, we’re doing more than ensuring a future for ourselves—we’re giving life to the creatures that inhabit this world with us. 💡 What small actions can we take today to ensure water is available for all living things tomorrow? 🎥valgruener #followme #Supportme
