🐦 When work takes the term "bird's eye view" quite literally! Conducting a survey in Evesham, I suddenly spotted my colleague doing a "stone assessment" to a church tower over the rooftops! Look no hands! 🤣 #GoodingCS #buildingsurveying #buidingsurveyor #propertymaintenance #SurveyingShenanigans #Worklife #fridaymood

Happy Labor Day weekend. Grateful to all those working around me. Over the course of a construction project, we come to know each other through work. We've shared snippets of our outside lives, but it's the physical act of work to bring two buildings together, piece by piece. It's skills acquired through years of practice. At its best, it's patience and perseverance. At it's worst it's exhaustion and carelessness. I found this writing today amongst my dad's belongings. I think it's difficult, but true. Work does not always have to be toil and a means to an end. It's a process, presence, purpose. Maybe we think of work as our vocations, but we labor at building ourselves as humans. We work at creating our families and communities. This upcoming week, in one Montana community, the cooperative work of dozens of people -- from different backgrounds, countries, and political beliefs, results in twenty-five new homes for people who need them. Proud and impressed by those impactful efforts of labor. #constructioniscool #seeconstructionprofessionals #luckytohavethem #respect

For today’s #throwbackthursday, I’d like to take you all on a trip down to the Fraser River. It’s a historical landscape of sorts, one that you can easily “visit” by Skytrain, just between the Columbia and Sapperton stations. It’s also one of my favourite scenic landscapes in the Lower Mainland, one that I see on my commute every day. The first photo, circa 1865, was likely taken just before (or after) the Columbia Detachment (the Sappers) were recalled elsewhere after several years of work (first landing in 1859) – with their camp dismantled. While we can only imagine what the lands once looked in their original condition, we can essentially see the full extent of the Sappers' work near their original landing: the lands are cleared and partially graded with a dirt wagon road with power poles installed along the way, paired with a boardwalk over on the left side of the picture. There’s even a liquor store in the shot, a vital asset to any burgeoning B.C. community. One of the reasons why I wanted to share this story today was to show that sometimes, despite all the changes around us, sometimes things “stay the same.” The sandbar-like islands are what originally caught my eye – formerly home to a temporary camp, they are still forested (and now unpopulated) to this day, surrounded by log booms bound for destinations unknown. It’s almost the exact same view as it was over a century ago, and remarkably, it's one that you can even still enjoy today.

Trees are an essential component of Fort Worth’s urban landscape, providing aesthetic beauty, shade, and environmental benefits. However, they can also pose significant risks to property and personal safety if not properly maintained. In Fort Worth, tree safety is a priority, with a focus on risk assessment and proactive management to prevent potential hazards. Residents and city officials alike recognize the importance of keeping trees healthy and stable, particularly in areas where they could impact homes, power lines, or public spaces. https://lnkd.in/gKBy7S76
