It's my 2 year anniversary with the great state of Texas! (Dig the shirt?! I suppose I can claim fan-status now...) And, as is the only constant in life - many changes abound. I wanted to reflect on some lessons learned this past summer - both with regard to business, and life - and express gratitude for folks who have helped me grow immensely during the last several months. On the business side, I've been consulting with a construction finance tech company, building out some early sales dev motions, scaling outreach initiatives across new product launches, and dabbling in demand via virtual events and social campaigns. On the biz side, I've learned and re-learned a lot. Including (but not limited to) ... ~ Intent signals/tools are still super noisy. Signals are best used as indicators, not direct talking points, and the best intent is hyper-relevant to your buyers journey, which probably means homespun. ~ How you present data is perhaps equally as important as what you've done. Sharp presentation skills (can) = good interpretations of your work. especially when it comes to showcasing your work to senior execs. ~ Smart, strategic video messaging is a total cheat code in prospecting for me. I have been LOVING using Sendspark dynamic videos with AI personalization at scale. ~ Speed to lead/quick follow up is still the most important thing to prioritize above all. 'Closing the loop' on the smallest of things, as my friend and former boss Taylor Bogar taught me, builds big trust among colleagues and customers alike. ~ Domain health is not something to overlook by any means. I'll tag some folks who I've learned from in this area in the comments. Low deliverability = people aren't seeing your beautifully crafted emails! Apollo.io has a great domain health feature, that's quite intuitive, and simple to interpret in layman's terms. I'm sure every SEP can show you your score to some capacity. Don't overlook this... And, on the personal side, the quote "there are years that ask questions and years that answer” (Zora Neale Hurston) comes to mind. I've learned and re-learned many life lessons. Best of all, is to be gentle with myself through change. ~~ Many thanks to you if you've supported me along the way in any capacity, small or large. a bit of my story with Usercentrics …..😳 Received the “Trailblazer” award recently took me back to when I first got my offer from this amazing data privacy and tech-driven company—1.5 years ago. Picture 19-year-old me, bursting with joy in my tiny student room after landing the role of Account Development Representative. I was so excited I could’ve jumped to the moon! But then came the big questions: What is this role? 🤔 How do I prove my worth—not just to the company, but to myself? Fast forward, and I’m no longer that wide-eyed kid (though I still have that enthusiasm!). The ADR role has been a journey of self-discovery, helping me uncover my potential, strengths, and weaknesses. With my incredible team, we've shown our value to the organization and ourselves. Stepping into the Senior role, I feel a surge of confidence but still face those familiar questions: What does this role mean? What value can I bring? It’s like standing at the edge of a beautiful forest, eager to explore what lies ahead. 🌳 As I continue this journey, I realize it’s about the memories we create and the people we meet along the way. Nothing can stop me from discovering new paths as a truly Trailblazer 🕵️

I was truly inspired by the panelists' stories about how failure shaped their journey to success in their current roles. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: 💡 Tiffany Shen Miller - "Over time, what did you learn from rejection? Challenges don’t go away until you learn from the situation. The best answers come from struggle and failure." 💡Peter Gallina - "My mother once told me, ‘You’ve always done it your way, keep doing that.’ Start young, keep knocking on doors. Be yourself and don’t try to fit in." 💡 Crystal S. H. - "Things CAN turn out good last minute. Don’t listen to people who say you can’t do something because you don’t have the experience." 💡 Bethany Poole - "It took me six months of interviewing to realize a specific field wasn’t for me. Yahoo- I have completed my tenth year at the Texas Department of Information Resources as of today! So, I'm celebrating this milestone by commencing a series of original and exciting posts here on LinkedIn. After 50+ years in IT and still going, it is time to share my thoughts, IT war stories, and current learning. At some point, even my kid's favorite yarn, "Yes, I originated the slang Spam": As a taste, I attached a picture from the very first computer I worked on. I would be impressed if anybody could guess what it is and what computer it came from! So, for my inauguration post - I'd like to share how I ended up in my current job. It is exceptionally NOT profound. Way back when I applied for the job, I had four personal reasons to go for it: 1) After nearly 20 years as a Founder/CTO/COO of elecomm.com and medispecialty.com, I needed to catch up and get current as a technologist and developer; I was concerned I might miss out on that new cloud thingy. DIR had just assembled the first private communication cloud for state-shared services. I wanted to be a part of that. 2) I had an affinity for DIR and the state, although nobody remembers; elecomm.com deployed some of the first internet closets for agencies in the mid-90s on Sun3s and Sparc10s. I was rejoining the band and sharing a critical mission. 3) I was convinced there was no reason why Texas could not compete in IT and digital business with the best of the private and commercial sectors. But, to make it happen, I needed folks in the middle with feet to the ground and not just leadership, and I could do that while understanding the overall strategy and mission. To make this happen, I was working with others to bring in Leam IT operations (i.e., Agile). 4) I was burned out! After 20 years as an entrepreneur in a small company, I was ready to be the customer rather than the provider with a 9-to-5 job. I hoped to regain my professional spirit, and DIR's mission and people culture brought it back. Well, if you've read all the way through. What can I say except there will be more!

how to minimize the risk of disappointment when joining a new company 👇 1. do your research (aka due diligence): don't just Google; reach out to people who have worked at the company before. 2. align expectations: a deal is only a deal when both sides understand what is expected and agree on delivering it, and it works both ways. anything else? 

When I was in high school my best friend and I had this saying... "TRUST YOUR GUT" It was a way for us to try and find the answer when we were still figuring things out in life...still growing. Should we ask that girl to the dance? Should we join that club? Should we...should we...should we...always, TRUST YOUR GUT. I just turned 43 a couple days go. High school is a long time ago. Yet today I found myself back to this statement, TRUST YOUR GUT. You see, I do believe there are some things that "call us" more than others. (And yes, "call us" should be in quotes...because I'm not sure we know exactly what that force of attraction is.) Today I realized that working with customers is my thing. My passion. It's what my GUT says. When I was let go from Microsoft last fall my first post was about people. The people I worked with. The customers I worked with. Months later, I'm back to that focus...that purpose. Customer Success Manager - that's my future. At least, that's what my GUT says. 😊 #customersucess #customersuccessmanager #csm
