Attached to this post is my first ever book review that I want to share. Waaay! I still have a lot to figure out about the etiquette of writing a book review so this is more or less just a discussion about Soft & Hard HRM. The book is called Human Resource Management, essentials you always wanted to know by Jaquina Gilbert and I found it to be a helpful starting point. Bibliography Gilbert J. (2020) Human Resource Management, Essentials you always wanted to know, Self-Learning Management Series, Vibrant Publishers, USA, printed in the UK by Amazon. Armstrong M. (2023) Armstrong's Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice, A guide to the theory and practice of people management, 16th Ed. Kogan Page, London.

A fantastic handbook, edited and contributed by so many amazing scholars. I had the pleasure of co-authoring two chapters with two incredible colleagues. The first chapter, written with Dr. Caleb Seung-hyun Han, explores skilling as a promising framework for applying people/workforce analytics to HRD practices. The second chapter, in collaboration with Dr. Kibum Kwon, challenges the long-standing, but potentially outdated, HR wheel (HRD/HRM distinction) framework by examining what professionals in the field actually do. We utilized topic modeling to analyze LinkedIn job postings for our research. #hrd #ahrd #L&D #peopleanalytics #hranalytics #skilling #textmining #talentdevelopment #handbook #tamu

Many believe that the major benefit of a Masters in Human Resource Management (HRM) lies solely in textbook knowledge and theoretical understanding. However, I argue that the real value lies in the people we meet, the relationships we build, and the diversity of experiences we get exposed to. Here's why: Sure, academic knowledge and the insight into various HRM mechanisms which the course provides are crucial. But, in a field like HR, where understanding people lies at the core, the varied backgrounds and viewpoints introduced by our peers dish out real-time lessons on how to deal with diverse employees, managers, and work cultures in the future. So, instead of focusing solely on what textbooks teach us, let's not forget to extract valuable lessons from our diverse group of classmates. What do you think about the importance of people interaction and diversity in pursuing Human Resource Management? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. #HRM

I'm happy to share that my paper with Netta Weinstein and Arik Cheshin about the effect of listening training on employees' burnout and turnover intentions is among the 10 most cited articles in Human Resource Management Journal from January 2022 to December 2023. listening has been largely ignored within the HRM literature and I hope this is a start to more attention to this highly powerful constrct and behavior.
