There is a distinct difference between kiddos who are shy and children who are simply more introverted and prefer spending their down time reading or drawing by themselves. Sometimes kids just prefer quiet time or being in small groups, but it’s essential that more introverted children still get opportunities to make friends. Start by setting the bar low to determine how much your child can handle and set your expectations accordingly. A great start is finding just one thing they like to do once a week, and build from there. Try planning playdates at home first, where your child will be most at ease. Team sports, Clubs or other activities are also a good way to make friends because they provide built-in structure that helps minimize anxiety. Some kiddos may have trouble picking up on social cues and following “social rules.” This makes it hard for them to fit in, form friendships, and work with others. There are different reasons children have difficulty with social skills. Sometimes, the cause is temporary. But trouble with these skills is often part of larger, lifelong challenges. Our Speech and Occupational therapists work with kiddos to improve skills needed for good social interactions, developing friendships, navigating social situations, promoting healthy relationships and developing positive peer interactions. As the holiday season approaches, remember that involving your loved one in celebrations can enhance their wellbeing immensely. Whether it’s sharing a meal, participating in festive activities, or simply enjoying each other’s company, these moments foster connection and joy. Social connections provide essential emotional support, help limit stress, and significantly reduce feelings of loneliness. Unfortunately, many older adults become less socially engaged over time, which can affect their overall wellbeing. That’s where we come in! Our Balanced Care Method™ focuses on opportunities for our clients to make new friends, engage in enriching conversations, discover exciting hobbies, and stay connected with family, friends, and their community. You don't have to do it all on your own. Actually, scratch that... You SHOULDN’T do it all on your own. I'm a broken record when it comes to the importance of building your community as a new parent resuming work post parental leave. Isolation is one of the key factors that can lead new parents to #burnout. Feeling like no one understands what you're going through, that you can't speak up about your struggles, or even that others are doing way better than you, makes matters much worse when you’re already exhausted or stressed out. So here are 3 sources from which to build a solid support network, both in the private and professional sphere: 👉 Supportive colleagues: Reach out to coworkers who are also parents or who have experience balancing work and family life. They can offer valuable insights and advice, and potentially serve as mentors or allies as you navigate your return to work. Your organisation might have a parent-specific ERG (Employee Resource Group). They’re a brilliant way to connect with other parents at work. 👉 In-person or online support groups: Explore social media groups, in-person or virtual meetups, and workshops for parents returning to work. These communities can be a great way to connect with others outside of your organisation and provide a safe space to share insights, resources and emotional support. This can be particularly helpful if there are topics that you’re not fully comfortable bringing up at work. 👉 Perinatal professionals: Perinatal care practitioners, such as doulas (👋Alix, Diane), lactation or sleep consultants (👋 Rosalie), and therapists or coaches specialising in perinatal wellbeing, can offer expertise, emotional support and practical assistance tailored to the needs of new parents. They’re also a great resource to provide referrals and connections to other specialised care professionals. If it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes another one to support the ones who are doing the raising. Especially if they juggle it with work. So start building your village as soon as you can, and don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed. #workingmom #workingparents #maternityleave #paternityleave #parentalleave #coaching #selfdevelopment #wellbeing #mentalhealth #futureofwork #remotework #flexiblework #womenintech #diversity #inclusion

The Secret to a Longer, Healthier Life for Seniors? Purpose. A study by Papa found that seniors with a strong sense of purpose - the conviction that their life has meaning and direction - enjoy SIGNIFICANT advantages over those without it. Research shows they face a lower mortality risk, experience better mental health, exhibit improved cognitive abilities, and report a greater overall sense of well-being. But what drives purpose in seniors? 👉 Social connection. Social connection isn't just nice—it's essential. It's the #1 driver of purpose at least until age 85, with younger adults valuing it 28% more intensely than seniors. When social networks fade, seniors pivot—finding purpose in cooking, self-care, and personal independence. And as we age, this purpose doesn’t diminish but in fact, it evolves. 1 in 5 adults over 85 cite faith as their main driver of purpose. #aging #caregiving
