Too many people are left with more questions than answers about their own periods. For too long, menstrual health education has skimmed the surface, leaving older generations in the dark and young people confused. Basic biology is just the start, but we need to get real about the complexities of periods because no two are the same. Every student deserves to understand not only what happens during a period but how their bodies evolve over time, with the tools to identify pain levels, conditions and advocate for their health. That’s where our Period Dignity scheme steps in. We’re here to ensure students feel fully prepared, not just for now but for every stage of their journey ahead. I would like to announce that I have recently concluded my tenure at the Child and Adolescent Health Department of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC). During my time there, I led a comprehensive needs assessment research project focused on the current health offerings at charter high schools in Boston. This task was complex due to the numerous risk factors that can negatively impact the health outcomes of high school students in charter schools. Utilizing the annual Youth Risk Behavior Survey, I concentrated on key public health issues, such as the use of tobacco and vapor products, alcohol and drug consumption, unsafe sexual practices, and poor dietary habits. Given the qualitative nature of this research, I aimed to also provide a broader perspective by presenting a comparative analysis of each school's current health offerings, identifying gaps and challenges, and highlighting opportunities for BPHC's future interventions. To achieve this, I developed a Health Resource Index, which comprises four categories and ten indicators of health education and services. This document includes the background, an explanation of the Health Resource Index, the methodology, and references from the complete report.

Menstrual health concerns are common across the population. In Australia, around 90% of those under 25 years of age experience regular period pain. Menstrual health literacy has a direct impact on young peoples’ quality of life, health, academic, and professional performance. The authors underscore the importance of applying a range of teaching strategies incorporating a 'whole school approach', enhancing access to evidence-based resources, and implementing procedures to effectively manage period symptoms in students. Education is paramount for endometriosis early diagnosis .
Endometriosis, pelvic pain and period pain - working to reduce the negative impact of pelvic and menstrual pain
Just in time for Endometriosis Awareness Month our final report on the research we undertook on Young person, parent/carer, and school teachers’ understanding of periods, period pain, and endometriosis is now online. We collected information from parents who spoke English, Arabic, Mandarin, and Vietnamese as well as school teachers and young people themselves about what they knew about periods, what they were taught in schools, and what they felt they didn't know. We also asked about how best to deliver this information and what involvement families would like to have in their children's health literacy education. Generously supported by Endometriosis Australia's seed grant funding and led by Dr Christina Curry we will be using these findings to help improve our web resource for improving menstrual health literacy https://lnkd.in/g3Gt2ZvZ in the coming months to better meet the diverse needs of modern Australia. A great speech That is exactly what I precieve public health as it is the power to change the lives so we can have a beeter community. It is not about tools or clinical experience it is about change and being able and persevering to make that change Of course tools, knowledge and experience are important but the best public health interventions were innovative and simple ideas
“Public health is not merely a career. It is a calling.” Class speaker Kamali Clora, MPH ’24, was chosen by his fellow students to deliver this year’s student commencement address. He urged us all to adopt a “healthy disregard for the impossible” and reminded us of the wide-reaching importance of public health.

National Health Education Week aims to highlight the vital role of health education specialists in promoting consumer wellness and educating future students. Professionals in this field equip health providers, policymakers, human resource personnel, educators, and others with essential knowledge, skills, and training that enhance overall well-being. The goal of health education is to enhance the health of individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole. Educators strive to improve the quality of life for everyone while aiming to decrease premature deaths and disabilities. By emphasizing prevention, health education also helps to alleviate the financial strain associated with medical treatment. Each day of National Health Education Week highlights a distinct health education topic. This week kicks off with a strong focus on advocacy for vulnerable populations. The emphasis will be on supporting groups that have historically been marginalized and silenced, particularly regarding their economic conditions, educational access, environmental safety, and healthcare availability. Factors such as trauma, socio-economic status, and discrimination can significantly increase the risk of developing chronic diseases. The concept of health is achieving complete physical, mental, and social well-being, rather than solely an absence of ailment or disease. #HealthEducation #Knowledge #WellBeing #Support #Wellness #Prevention
