Did you know that approximately 45% of the food that we waste at home are fruits and vegetables? 🥔 🍌 🥕 🍎 That’s why Love Food Hate Waste came up with Food Waste Action Week, which runs this week! This year’s theme is Choose What You’ll Use to highlight the benefits of buying loose fruits and vegetables. Buying in bulk works well when you have a plan for the food but, if not, buying loose allows you to buy only what you need. By choosing what is right for you — the size, quantity, shape, ripeness — you will prevent food waste by buying closer to your needs. Follow along this week, and check out Love Food Hate Waste for some great resources! https://buff.ly/3wZkhz7 #foodwasteactionweek #lovefoodhatewastecanada

Today is Stop Food Waste Day. Not only is it important to think of ways to use up leftovers, but it is equally as important to purchase correctly to avoid food going to waste. Each week, consider the following, whether at home or in a commercial food service operation: 1) Plan your menu for the following week. If you have ingredients that are expiring soon, plan meals for earlier in the week that can utilize those ingredients. 2) Take inventory of the ingredients you have in stock 3) Form a shopping list of needed ingredients and quantities based on the planned menu and inventory levels. If you follow the steps above, then your fridge should be nearly empty when it's time to shop for the following week. And thus, you eliminated food waste! It only takes a little time to do, and think, if we can all follow these steps, what a difference we can make! Please share in the comments below any other ideas for how you stop food waste. #StopFoodWasteDay Stop Food Waste Day

On World Food Day, let’s take a moment to think about how we can tackle food waste at home. A great way to start is by following the FIFO (First In, First Out) method—simply move older food items to the front of the fridge when putting away groceries. This helps ensure that nothing gets lost at the back of the crisper, and all your food stays fresh longer. For extra clarity, label items or create a designated "use it" section so everyone knows what to eat next. Want more tips on reducing food waste? It’s our annual tradition of the 12 Days of Waste Less. This year our true love (sustainability) gave to us… - Food waste for repurposing. - Stale marshmallows. - Spent brewers yeast. - Tons of cheesy scraps. - Five recycling streams. - Shelved milk expiring. - Cookie crumbs for piggies. - Powdered drinks a-mixing. - Peanuts for deer eating. - Ten million pounds of candy. - Products in pre-packaging. - Salty snacks for snacking.

4.7 million tonnes of edible food is wasted by UK households every year. 🍎 🥕 🥔 🍌 In total, shoppers waste £17 billion on food that ends up in the bin. We want people to buy what they really need, and according to our research, they want this too. But there are barriers to changing behaviours and a disparity between what people intend to do, and actually do. To help break down these barriers, we’ve teamed up with Gino D'Acampo for #FoodWasteActionWeek to celebrate 🎵 all the single veggies! 🎵 “Finding out just how much food ends up in the bin really shocked me. As a passionate chef, there’s nothing I love more than choosing the best produce for those I’m cooking for. Being able to pick out just what I need for each dish I make; it can’t be beaten. Saving food, saving money, and getting the best out of your cooking. What could be better?” As Gino says, “We need to look after the environment” and the simplest way to reduce food waste is to #ChooseWhatYoullUse. Do you take lunch to the office? 🥗 Find out how to keep salad crisp and fresh for longer 👇 We're kicking off #FoodWasteActionWeek with a top tip from one of our Waste Nothing Challenge contributors: Bristol chef, food waste campaigner and author, Shane Jordan. Next time you buy a bag of salad, remove any slimy leaves and transfer the rest to a sealed container in the fridge as soon as possible. Keeping it in a dry and air tight container will help it last a lot longer - you might even get round to eating it! 😉 Discover more ways to reduce food waste in our 30-day Waste Nothing Challenge: https://lnkd.in/etZC32GR #Bristol #Sustainability #GlobalRecyclingDay

This is an important campaign that we should be a part of. Every year, UK consumers waste 4.7 billion tonnes of edible food. I find these statistics to be staggering! Think about the process of producing food; the amount of water, energy, pesticides, labor, transportation, and the amount of carbon that is produced! #food #foodbusiness #foodwaste #carbonemissions #carbonfootprint #embodiedcarbon #climate are all related to #food.
