Do you seek to understand the impacts of climate change on our community? Do you worry about your family's or community's health in the face of increased flooding, heat, air pollution, etc? We would like to invite you to a free presentation on February 27 (6-7:30 pm via Zoom) "Climate Change on Chicago's Greater West Side: Floods, Air Pollution, Extreme Heat & More" Our presenter is U Michigan-based climatologist Omar Gates, who will help us understand how climate change is already impacting us, how it will impact us in the future, and how we can adapt to our new reality. On March 22, we celebrate World Water Day with AquaAction, a day for reflection and to take action on the global water crisis. Snowing on the first day of spring wasn’t what we were expecting this year but did you know that water and climate change are inextricably linked. From unpredictable rainfall patterns to shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, floods and droughts – most impacts of climate change come down to water water. This World Water Day, we all need to unite around water and use water for peace, laying the foundations of a more stable and prosperous tomorrow. Water affects everyone and that’s why we need all hands on deck to take action! #WorldWaterDay #SaveWater #Sustainability

A poster for an apocalypse movie or reality? Climate change and its devastating effects continue to wreck havoc all across the globe on lives, communities and economies. The image below is from the streets of Spain after Tuesdays torrential downpour tore through local communities. The devastating floods in Spain this week are yet another reminder of how much is at stake if we do not act on climate change as citizens, as governments, as corporations. There is no more time to waste! #ClimateChange #BusinessforGood Read more about the impacts of the floods: https://lnkd.in/gYSD7WYy

Wars over water – a present and future matter for the climate crisis Most people know that water scarcity is becoming a bigger problem as climate change causes more weather disruptions and drought, leading to more intense competition for water. But not many people know the exact scale of the problem: let me enlighten you. Water scarcity affects about 40% of the world’s population. https://lnkd.in/dAWt-k5m

International Day of Climate Action falls on the 24th of October every year to raise awareness of the pressing need to address climate change. 🌏 Climate action means one of two things: Firstly, reducing harmful emissions that cause this rapid rate of climate change. Secondly, improving our adaptation to the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, flooding and drought. 🌊 In our latest blog post we discuss sustainable ways we can manage this and how we can all do our bit. Click the link here to read more. 🥬 #OurRainwater #RainwaterHarvesting #RainwaterManagement #ClimateAction #Flooding

We are not used to wildfires in the Northeast. Fossil fuels continue to heat up our planet and there will be no place to escape the heated Earth. Q: What do these wildfires now occurring in the Northeast tell us about the ongoing struggle against climate change A: Hilary Howard: That it's completely unpredictable. The Northeast over the last 10 years has been known for its historic flooding and its general saturation of the earth. And now we're dealing with a parched and in some areas, scorched earth situation. And it's a roll of the dice as to which one it will be at this point. https://lnkd.in/e97CW_tT

Great article about the changing climate and it's impact on the water cycle by Denise Chow and Evan Bush of NBC News. "The water cycle controls every aspect of Earth’s climate system, which means that as the climate changes, so too does nearly every step of water’s movement on the planet. In some places, the availability of water is becoming increasingly scarce, while in others, climate change is intensifying rainfall, floods and other extreme weather events." #water #waterindustry #climatechange
Climate change is throwing the water cycle into chaos across the U.S.

The science is clear. Climate change is here. Between more intense rainfall, larger floods, and long dry periods, our communities are all too aware of what climate change can do. Find out how we’re working with local communities to protect against what’s happening today, and building resilience for tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/g_kM_qqg #CMAsGetItDone

Our region has always experienced droughts, floods, fires, and heatwaves. Climate change increases the frequency, severity, and duration of these events. Our focus on climate change within all our projects means we're taking long-term action to help the sustainability of our environment, economy, and society. https://lnkd.in/g_kM_qqg #CMAsGetItDone

Here's why you shouldn't use doom and gloom to communicate climate change - and what to do instead. Intense negative messages can induce helplessness and discourage individual action. Instead, leverage hope by taking an action-oriented approach and discuss the impacts of climate change that affect daily life, such as flooding, urban heat islands, or extreme weather. For a powerful combo, partner those real examples with programs and policies to make communities and ecosystems more resilient. For example, instead of emphasizing last summer’s extreme heat, focus on how planting trees has a cooling effect on the neighborhood, along with benefits for reducing stormwater runoff, increasing property values, and improving air quality.
