Groups representing people with severe disabilities are calling for more fully accessible toilets to be installed in public spaces in Scotland. There are currently nearly 290 Changing Places Toilets, which are more spacious and contain specialist equipment. But campaigners say more are urgently needed – and that a lack of the facilities means some people are unable to leave their homes. Let's celebrate National AccessAbility Week! Together, we can shine a light on the work individuals and organizations are doing for accessibility and disability inclusion. At CPRA, we're passionate about creating inclusive environments in sport and recreation. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in physical activity and leisure pursuits, regardless of ability. During this important week, let's not only celebrate the progress we've made but also reflect on what more we can do to champion accessibility and inclusion for all in our communities. From advocating for accessible facilities and programming to promoting adaptive sports and inclusive recreation opportunities, there's always more work to be done. Join the conversation and think about what more you can do to make your community more inclusive and accessible for everyone: https://buff.ly/2IWixIT Together, let's continue to break down barriers and create a more inclusive society for all. #NAAW2024 #AccessibleCanada #PW

Make Way Day is a national initiative aimed at raising awareness about the obstacles people with disabilities face in their everyday lives. Organized by the Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI), this day focuses on promoting accessibility and reminding everyone of the small but significant steps we can take to make our communities more inclusive. It’s easy to overlook how everyday items like wheelie bins, bicycles, and illegally parked cars can become major barriers for those with mobility challenges, people using wheelchairs, those with visual impairments, or parents pushing prams. For these individuals, a seemingly minor obstruction can force dangerous detours into traffic or even prevent them from reaching their destination altogether. On Make Way Day, we ask you to be mindful of where you leave things. Clearing footpaths and public spaces of unnecessary obstacles makes a world of difference to someone who relies on accessible routes. Next time you take out the bin, park your car, or leave your bike, take a moment to ensure it’s not blocking the way for someone else. Let’s all work together to create a community where everyone can move freely and safely. #makewayday24 #wehear #morethanhousing #tenantfirst

Age Friendly public space means that older people are actively involved in social, economic and cultural life. This creates better local environment for everybody’s benefit. Age Friendly Towns respond to what members of the community need as they age. The design and maintenance of a community’s built environment and public realm can make the difference between a healthy and active lifestyle, or one characterised by limited mobility and high levels of social isolation. When the environment is attractive and accessible, people of all ages can be supported to enjoy more active and connected lives. Age Friendly Ireland developed a toolkit that communities, towns and neighbourhoods can use that will support making your area or town more age friendly. The toolkit provides the processes, practices and tools developed as part of the Age Friendly Towns Programme in Ireland. Strengthening our commitment to accessibility inclusion this Disability History Month at voco St. David's Cardiff.⭐ We’re very proud to share that in partnership with AccessAble; the UK’s leading provider of accessibility information, we have created a Detailed Access Guide to help guests plan their visit with confidence and ease. This initiative underpins our purpose to provide True Hospitality for Good. From parking and walking distances to hearing loops and accessible toilets, every detail in the guide is verified by trained surveyors, ensuring it’s 100% accurate. We know that accessibility isn’t one-size-fits-all and everyone’s needs are different, so reliable information is so important in creating a truly inclusive travel experience for all. Our guide will be available from January 2025 at www.AccessAble.co.uk. #DisabilityHistoryMonth #AccessibleTravel #Inclusion #Accessibility

⭕ Should you have to do a wheelie to access public transport? ⭕ Imagine if you walkers out there had to pop a handstand to get on the ferry? 😆 Accessibility is a problem, no denying this, however developing skills can help. Having a wheelie with a pull-through technique up your sleeve can be the difference between enjoying a ferry ride and a day out exploring, or not. ❗BUT, despite being a proactive guy who tries not to let poor access stop me, coming across these situations is tiring! And what if you're a powerchair user who can't just pop a wheelie? Credit to Black Cat Cruises and Paul Milligan for reaching out after seeing this video on Instagram. I commend you for the new accessible pontoon on the Diamond Harbour side and for being willing to improve the access to your service. ChristchurchNZ and Christchurch City Council there is still a LONG way to go especially in the built environment. Just look at all those new townhouses with steps to the front door as an example. Thanks to all you other access crusaders out there. Some that spring to mind include: Sophie Morgan , Wheel the World , Be. Lab , The Hāpai Access Card , CCS Disability Action , New Zealand Spinal Trust , Jezza Williams Tanelle Bolt , Permobil APAC , Anna Sarol Who else is making the world accessible for all? Please tag them in the comments and share this post to help increase access equality. #adaptdefy #liveagreaterthanlife #wheelchairlife #wheelchairaccess #accessibilityrights #disabilityawareness #disabilityadvocate #wheelchairskills #paraplegic #spinalcordinjury

Raising Awareness of Seen & Unseen Disability At Vattenfall we know that empowerment starts with visibility. Not all disabilities are immediately visible — understanding neurodiversity, for example, helps us to create work environments that allow everyone to thrive. 3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. At Vattenfall, we celebrated the day with different events focused on accessibility and inclusion. From webinars to virtual reality experiences, we are committed to raising awareness, removing barriers and celebrating the contributions of people with disabilities. Vattenfall's concrete actions include the publication of the internal digital accessibility guidelines, ensuring equal access for everyone in line with stricter standards coming in 2025 for digital products and services. Additionally, through the Vattenfall Signs initiative, employees have been signing up for sign language learning programmes to become ambassadors to the hard of hearing in location, which will create a more inclusive work environment. ✨ Click the link below to learn more. Together, we can make a difference. #InclusionMatters #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #Neurodiversity #Vattenfall
