As I was reading the Indigenous Resilience Report, specifically the section on Natural Laws, I was touched by the emphasis on respect that permeates the passage. It seems like most of the current language on the topic of climate is embattled and conflict oriented. Rather than "fighting a crisis" what if we turned towards respecting the "Natural Laws" that sustain and support us as part of the more-than-human-world? Thank you to the friends who championed this work. I have attached the link to their homepage so you can explore this for yourself. https://lnkd.in/gfVs-586

Excellent initiative International Labour Organization.. Social protection is essential to shield the most vulnerable from the climate crisis for several reasons: ■#Protectionfromclimaterelatedshocks: Social protection programs can provide financial support and resources to help vulnerable populations recover from climate-related disasters and shocks. ■#Reducingpovertyandinequality: Social protection can help reduce poverty and inequality by providing a safety net for those most affected by climate change. ■#Promotingclimateresilience: Social protection can help build climate resilience by supporting climate-smart agriculture, water management, and other adaptive measures. ■#Supportinghumanrights: Social protection is essential for ensuring the human rights of vulnerable populations are protected in the face of climate change. ■#Empoweringwomenandgirls: Social protection can empower women and girls, who are often disproportionately affected by climate change. ■#Supportingmarginalizedcommunities: Social protection can reach marginalized communities, including indigenous peoples, who are often most vulnerable to climate change. ■#Fosteringinclusiveclimateaction: Social protection can help ensure climate action is inclusive and leaves no one behind. ■#Reducingmigrationanddisplacement: Social protection can help reduce migration and displacement caused by climate change. ■#Promotingsustainabledevelopment: Social protection can support sustainable development by reducing poverty and inequality. ■#Urgentneed: The climate crisis requires immediate action, and social protection is an essential part of the response. By #providing a safety net and supporting climate resilience, social protection can help shield the #mostvulnerable from the #climatecrisis and promote a more #equitableandsustainablefuture. "Reimagining the language of engagement in a post-stakeholder world" explores how the term "stakeholder" can unintentionally reinforce colonial narratives and systemic inequities. Instead of offering a single replacement term, the authors encourage "a focus on the people, places, and species affected by decisions, interventions, projects, and issues." https://lnkd.in/gDievtmC

Thank you, International Labour Organization, for highlighting the intersection of social protection and climate resilience. It's crucial that we extend and strengthen social protection systems to safeguard vulnerable communities disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis. By promoting a just transition, we can ensure that those most affected are not left behind as we move towards a sustainable future. Proud to have joined the discussion in exploring how we can build a more equitable world together. #ClimateJustice #SocialProtection #JustTransition
