A world in transition! Yesterday I was supporting as a host the Amsterdam Chemistry Innovation Day. A conference and career fair at the science park in Amsterdam called: "A world in transition”, where academia, students and industry came together. I am always amazed about the energy and commitment during these events, when people come together with a purpose and mindset of connecting, sharing, learning and openness to discuss different points of view. Over 350 registrations and 20+ speakers from the academia and the industry and 15 companies on the jobmarket. A learning experience with discussions and insights about science in chemistry, health and its applications to contribute to a more sustainable world. Circular economies, CO2 Valorisation, Renewable energy, Food transition, Biocatalysts the promise and practice, Tea industry transition, The port of Amsterdam, waste recycling and Quantum horizons. So much fascinating and promising science, business start ups and business implementations at scale. A dynamic vibe! But also critical questions and self reflection about the impact we are making, the speed of transition, availability of innovation and the constraints and challenges in the environments we operate in. There needs to be a problem to be resolved, what and whose problem are we resolving? What does zero carbon really means? Science and technology innovation is one, but awareness and the change in human behavior and creating the right environment to innovate is probably as important to accelerate. On Monday we took part in the annual Job Forum of the JungChemikerForum (JCF) der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker e.V. (GDCh) at the Wechloy Campus of the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. The theme of the event was “Chemical Perspectives in the Northwest”. The inspiring discussions and many questions at our stand showed us how important such events are – not only for students, but also for us as an employer: • Direct communication: Presenting our company in person gives us the opportunity to authentically communicate our corporate culture, values and goals. • Talent search: We can get in direct contact with highly qualified and motivated young people. • Employer brand: Through our presence and commitment, we show our interest in the next generation of professionals and strengthen our special relationship with the University of Oldenburg and the Department of Chemistry. • Feedback and Trends: We get direct feedback from students about the perception of our company and we can exchange about current topics and trends in chemistry. • Network building: We get in touch not only with potential own employees, but also with potential future customers and are already looking forward to the future cooperation. • Innovations and ideas: The exchange with young, fresh talents gives us new perspectives and challenges us to expand innovative ideas. 🔭 MaP Postdoc Perspectives & Picnic 🔭 Today's MaP Postdoc Perspectives & Picnic was a roaring success with 25 engaged attendees! 🚀 Professors Kjell Jorner (Digital Chemistry), Wenchao Xu (Quantum Engineering), and Arkadiy SImonov (Disordered Materials) shared invaluable insights on mastering the faculty interview. Some takeaways: 💡 Stay broad when showcasing your research, committee members are not necessarily specialists in your field. 💡You're continuously being interviewed, not just during the actual interview, but also for example during dinner with other faculty members. 💡You are also interviewing them, it's a two-way process. 💡Try to enjoy the process, otherwise it might get too exhausting. 💡Breathing exercises or yoga can help you cope with the stress the process entails. After a round of Q&A, the event continued with the promised picnic and networking.
