It started with a simple idea: what if no one facing homelessness was without a place to turn? At our South West regional day, we heard how Freedom Community Alliance is making that vision a reality in North Devon. Their housing team works alongside the council (in the same building!) to create a seamless system of support: 6 emergency pods*, short-term housing, longer-term solutions, and move-on accommodation for those in need. And here’s where it gets even better: those emergency pods? They were produced and delivered by another one of our partners, Amazing Grace Spaces, who also build innovative modular housing. Together with Green Pastures, they’ve opened a women’s house—a safe haven for 5 ladies rebuilding their lives after rehab, prison, or the streets. This is what happens when compassion and innovation come together. (*Emergency pods are temporary shelters providing immediate support to those in crisis.)

President's Post: In the words of Michael Block, the CEO of All Roads (formerly the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless), "Fighting homelessness can sometimes seem like pushing a big rock up a steep hill. So when there’s good news, it’s great to point it out and build on it." And this is some positive progress to report: https://lnkd.in/gfvYZXtG. The Boulder Chamber's partnership with All Roads in support of the Day Service Center and in creating housing options, like the Bluebird permanent supportive building, are elements of the progress we can make through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of our unhoused population and to address the business and community impacts of homelessness. Let's keep pushing forward!

Right now, too many of us in the Bay Area struggle to afford housing, face threats of eviction, and experience homelessness. But there’s hope. We’re joining together, as neighbors and advocates — renters and landlords, homeowners and people experiencing homelessness — to unlock a new future for our communities where no one is left behind. For #AffordableHousingMonth we’re building a #BayArea where we value everyone’s humanity, where we treat everyone with justice and dignity, and where everyone belongs. https://loom.ly/ZrZvxmw

One of the best ways to tackle homelessness is to prevent it before it even happens. That’s where our Community Bridge program comes in. With support from our generous partners in the community at ENMAX, Community Bridge works with individuals and households to prevent imminent evictions through three kinds of support: ・ Financial education and empowerment ・ Benefits navigation and advocacy ・ Direct financial support including interest-free loans From January to October 2024, we helped ensure 464 individuals wouldn’t lose their homes — with 96% of the people we help staying in their homes long term (after a six-month follow-up). Today, on World Homeless Day, we stand together as a community committed to creating sustainable solutions that bring dignity and progress to all. Homelessness impacts each corner of our city, from those living in crisis to our service providers, residents, and business owners. We know that real change happens through collaboration, compassion, and focusing on long-term solutions. That’s why we embrace a housing-first approach—housing is healthcare and the foundation a life is built on. Our goal is to address homelessness at every level— by updating codes that support housing development, building new affordable units, and simplifying land-use policies to create safe, livable communities. Through strategic partnerships, like Heading Home of South Central Indiana, and with data-driven solutions through the Built For Zero initiative, we are making real-time strides in identifying and responding to those in need. The Housing Action Plan further guides our promise of long-term stability. Learn more at headinghomeindiana.org. Thank you to everyone involved in this critical work. Let’s continue moving forward with the strength of data, the power of kindheartedness, and a shared commitment to change.

In case one needed more evidence that Housing First is a failure with catastrophic results, please read the attached article. Housing First is two things: 1. a repositioning from a continuum of options for all people to PSH for chronically homelessness only and 2. an eligibility screen that excludes children & PREVENTS PREVENTION and early intervention. We can - we must - restore the Awardwinning Continuum of Care.
