Measuring biodiversity losses and gains are no easy task. Especially, because no agreed metrics are available today. That´s why we at Ørsted have launched a measurement framework with a 8-step transparent process that gives us the tools to measure both losses and gains for achieving a net-positive biodiversity outcome. We can’t take action for the climate without taking action for nature.  And our actions won’t measure up unless we measure them. That’s why, this World Ocean Day, we’re launching a new way to track progress on our biodiversity ambitions. First, we led the industry by announcing a net-positive biodiversity target for all new renewable energy projects commissioned from 2030 onwards. 'You can't manage what you can't measure' is bad advice for the climate-nature crisis. We must protect and restore nature while figuring out how to measure it. Ørsted have been taking action to protect and restore biodiversity while working on our measurement approach, and results from these projects have been vital for the development of our 'just-released' biodiversity framework. It has been a privilege working with Tina Tamm Bendixen, Madeline Hodge, Tommy Kristoffersen, Anthony Dvarskas, Daniel Willard, Greg DeCelles, Chih-An Lee, Natalia Lopez, Ditte Bilde, Tereza Havelund Andersen, Elisabeth Baden, Cat Valentin Hemmingsen, Sally Holroyd, Rennie Meyers, Cecile Gerondeau, Amy Finlayson, Virginia Dundas, Emma Hospes, and the good folks at The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd to develop and deliver Ørsted's biodiversity measurement framework. Developing a #global measurement framework for biodiversity has been challenging - there is no single metric, biodiversity is location-specific, baseline data is lacking, and there are myriad of legal and reporting frameworks to consider. To measure biodiversity we need coordination, #innovation, and cross-sector knowledge-sharing like never before - we have to work together, and we need your help! Exciting findings from a survey supported by Solar Energy UK! 🌞🌿 The study, conducted with consultancies Clarkson & Woods and Wychwood Biodiversity, revealed that solar farms are not just energy generators—they're biodiversity hotspots too! 🦋🐦 Analysing 87 solar sites, the study found that these farms can serve as "safe havens for biodiversity" and play a vital role in nature restoration. 🌱 From skylarks to brown hares, vulnerable and red-listed species thrive on UK solar farms. And it doesn't stop there—innovative approaches like growing chamomile between panel rows and planting plug-grown plants underneath modules are boosting biodiversity even further. 🌼 However, despite the proven benefits, public perception still poses challenges for solar farm planning permission. Recent refusals, like Anesco's 49MW solar farm proposal in Northamptonshire, highlight the need to address concerns about landscape change. 🏞️ #environmental #sustainability #alternativeenergy #renewableenergy

Happy Wildlife Day! 🌍❤️ Today we celebrate the incredible beauty of our planet’s wildlife and how it can co-exist with renewable energy. We took a tour with @nccleantech while at @nabcep to learn about the benefits and implementation of Solar Grazing. A concept that uses sheep to graze a solar farm instead of lawnmowers. This cuts out the carbon footprint of gas powered landscaping while providing local feed for sheep farms, a win win if you ask us. Always inspired to learn new ways to enhance energy efficiency. Together, we can utilize a more intentional symbiosis between wildlife and energy generation for future generations! #WildlifeConservationDay
